This question is really puzzling, and has been troubling me in some way, i would be grateful if someone can answer it. RCB(Registry of Companies and Businesses) in Singapore seems to state that anyone in "business" which means in their terms doing something for gain is considered in business and should register a business and business name. Those who don´t comply who be issued a penalty fine of $5000.

Musicians and indie artist have been cutting their albums all round the world, and many don´t register their own business nor are they under record labels etc.

The only exception according to RCB is in the case of being hired and cannot be announced in public. What about freelance workers who advertise their services? Do i have to register if i advertise my services as a musician, producer or arranger??

Then next i have to apply for a THO(Technopreneur Home Office) license from EDB(Economic Development Board) just becos i´m using my home studio to do my work???? And put a name plate outside my house??? The law is really puzzling!!!!!

It´s not totally a lose-lose situation.

It may be a worthwhile consideration since you can now write off your gear and computer as business expenses. (do note that this is not a one time write off but is depreciated over time).

Also conside this, electricity for the equipement, telephone bills, CD-Rs can also be considered business expenses.

Do work this out with a good accountant and find out whether it is worthwhile wrt to your earnings.
