I'm trying to look for a Les Paul copy for my friend ranging from $300-400 bucks. I'm looking at these 2 options -->

http://standardvalue.com.sg/store/index.php?act=viewProd&productId=488
and
http://www.soft.com.sg/forum/guitar-reviews/100720-kgarage-les-paul-honeyburst.html

I've tried the K-Garage LP copy and for the price of $300, it's not bad at all. I haven't tried the Rally guitar so I dunno what I might be missing with the sound and feel (Woodlands is waaay too far from our place).

Please advise.

Thanks!

if woodlands is too far for you, you can wait for standard value to open their 2nd branch at peninsular sometime this month.

yea thats correct, standard value opening their 2nd branch.i cant wait!
anyway, personally i haven tried the rally but heards lots of good reviews about it.
Its body is mahogany unlike the kgarage which is basswood.
Not saying basswood is bad but,The rally would sound more like a les paul i think

Thanks for the quick response guys. I just called Standard Value and unfortunately, the Rally LP doesn't come with anything... just the guitar itself compared with the K-Garage with the guitar bag and strings included etc.. :???: But the good thing is that SV can set it up for you. Too bad the guys in TY Music doesn't know how to align neck and such... (K-Garage has an awful high action when I tried it)

Yeah, but my friend will be buying the guitar tomorrow... he already has $400 at hand... if he will wait for another week or so, the money might disappear :)

ask him wait a while? good things take time to mature (like vintage guitars XDD)

anyway i passed the shop yesterday...it's near davis. can't wait for it to open.

is it replacing the "Levis" shop?

Check out the craftsman GS300 LP at citymusic. Alternatively, you can find Rally GL300 at novelty music as well. However, i find that the rally guitars in SV to be better setup.

eh i'm not sure, cause i don't notice the shops around there unless they are guitar shops.

It's in the same stretch of corridor as Zen and if memory serves me correctly it occupies the store which last time was anotherguitar store which now moved to xcelsor. @_@

sorry if i'm confusing >.< i'm bad with describing places

heard that Tokai LPs are not bad, selling at bukit timah shopping centre. Rally's LPs have great reviews too and both of these come at a much affordable price than Gibson :)

hey, question, i might be getting a rally too, but no idea should i change the pickup to tesla ones. How good is the stock, anyone tried them before?

sorry TS for hijacking

I'm considering a GL-400 too!! But I haven't heard any reviews about it.. Mostly the Gl-300. But they are about the same I guess? Anyone with any opinions on this?

I'm getting that or a semi-hollow. Can't decide...

Nooo, you gotta be kidding. That Levi's shop is rock-solid. ;)

SV is replacing the shop opposite the Levi's shop. Which used to be a shoe shop. I'm not surprised, because for all the time that I'm there, which is quite a lot, I've never seen a customer inside.

You might want to reconsider your priorities. IMHO, the bag and strings are not even a consideration. If the Rally is the better guitar, then go for it. The bag and strings are cheap, and easily replaced. They are not even top-end bags and strings to begin with. The quality of the guitar is definitely not worth sacrificing for just a bag and strings.

However, if you find that the K-Garage is a better guitar as compared to the Rally. Then go for it. When you're buying a guitar, always put the guitar first.
And similarly, please don't let the fact that the action is high etc etc cloud your judgement. That can be easily resolved.

Yeah, I guess you're right. It's just that, my buddy who will be buying the guitar is strict on his budget of $400. So... he's more like the idea of the cheaper the better. I will meet him up later and have him try first the K-Garage and let him check if he's ok with the 'feel' of the guitar... I will let him decide on this but still give him my better judgment. :)

Thanks man!
