Best strings for some tremolo abuse?

Which strings do softies prefer for floyd rose/similar tremolos
I suspect some strings don't snap as often as others?
I'm looking to setup and restring my new Ibanez, so any pointers welcome! :)

Ernie Ball RPS Slinkies are real good...

RPS stands for Reinforced Plain Strings...

The ball area of the string is reinforced, it can take whammy abuse nicely...

I don't think RPS strings would work in a floyd rose situation since the ball ends have to be cut off.

Perhaps you can try DR Strings, I've been using them for a very long time now; never had a problem.

But if you're looking to improve your string snapping situation on your ibanez the only trick is getting enough lubrication on the individual saddles of the bridge. I don't think changing to a particular brand would improve anything since with whammy bar usage comes definite metal fatigue on the strings.

Get some 2B pencil lead powder over the saddles, as well as your locking nut area too. That ought to ease things up a little. And also look out for metal burrs on the saddles too which can lead to even more string breakage.

Best remedy would be a set of graphtec string saver saddles, but to the best of my knowledge they don't make them for ibanez bridges.

Not sure about the OFR, but alot of floating bridges now have their ball-end through the bridge... The reinforced ball-end area helps alot... Can't say much about double locking trems though...

Yes ball end through string retaining block floating or non-floating bridge would benefit from the usage of RPS strings.

But I tend to disagree when it comes to floyd rose type bridges.

Enlighten me though, I've checked out RPS strings before, they have a wounded string near to the ball end. How is this suppose to prevent string breakage? I've never come across someone who has broken strings at the ball ends, it's always at the saddle.

I could be wrong though.

yes DR strings FTW.

they tend be a little stiffer for bends but the increased mass tends to be more stable when using it on non-locking trems, like a fender strat.

I've been using them ever since....although i bought a pack of RPS to try for fun....still prefer DR though...

Not exactly Floyd Rose

Not sure if this makes a difference, but mine's an Edge tremolo.
(Still new to tremolos!)
So does the RPS variety add value to this kind of setup?

No, RPS would no provide any benefit, none at all.

If you've got an edge tremolo, 2 things that you can do to prevert string breakage is to watch out for burred edges on the trem saddles, and also lubricate the saddles with some pencil lead, chap stick or whatever.

IMHO string breakage with locking trems is inevitable, unless you're able to fit on Graphtec string saver saddles. I've been using Graphtecs on my musicman luke, I've never broken a string! They're that good!

But I don't think they have a variant for Ibanez bridges.
