Best place to get a bass setup?

Does anyone know when will kaycee be down at zenguitarwerks? or when its open?
I pmed him but didnt get a reply. i cant wait to get my jazz setup!!!

he is usually there on tue thurs sat. but sometimes he has stuff on or switches shifts with someone so it's best to check

if it really was THAT much i might have considered to possibility of... changing the neck? ;)

but you already got your keeley so i presume the essential pedals are already on your board

Anyone tried the setup services from Mike at Standard Value?
How was it?

Coincidence, I just did mine at his place yesterday.

I would say he does the job as good as KC, $40 per set-up (no refretting needed), my knocked-up Yamaha bass looked and felt brand-new, he even tried to fix a 5cmX3cm indentation/crack/earthquake near my input jack with good results.

Excellent service, a wee bit shy lol, but definitely knows what he's doing. He even introduced me to one of the best sub-$1k J-basses I've ever heard in my life.

That Swing G1 Ash is mine, I say.

i wouldn't go to KC. his work is fantastic but unfortunately for us it seems like everyone realises it. i do my own setup now, but even if i had to send it in, i wouldn't wait like 2 weeks to get it done, which shows you how popular his services are. i would probably only go to zen if i needed some serious shit done, like bodywork or something.

i've never had setup done by TYMC. you could enquire, but i realise that TYMC is good at what they do, and they do things that some others don't, but they don't do everything.

i would give guitar77 a go. had some major work done by clement. he's a good guy, his work is good and most importantly, he's a bass player.

oh yeah, that day i went past g77 he wasnt there. i sent my bass for him to set up twice. really satisfied with his work. seems lik hes not always in the shop, better make appointment..

Hi Pete,

Sorry for not replying your PM. I hardly log into soft these days. Last year was a difficult time for repairs as I have had to travel a fair bit for work, hence like Shinobi said, sometimes a repair takes quite a bit longer than usual.

Not to worry though, there are many capable repairmen in Singapore. Clement(G77), Malcolm, Raymond (Luther) will be able to address your needs. (For those that I didn't mention, sorry as I don't really know who you are)

A setup is like tuning up a car, sometimes it takes more than once to get it 'right' according to player's demands. So I urge anyone here to adopt that mentality when setting up. For me, I will do a follow up setup at no charge.

Right now, I won't have to travel so often and I can usually get repairs out within 3 working days. You can email me at kc@maestroguitars.com as I don't give out my number to people I've not met (hope you understand)

regards,
KC

thanks for the reply KayCee. Gotta do some research before spending my hard-earned-cash on some less than competent luthiers. You'd be surprised at the difference between the quality of service of 2 different luthiers for the same amount of cash.

Well, what can I say. After you spend 40 bucks for him to get the job done, all he did was tweaked the saddles with an allen key afew notches up....and problems I requested for him to solve still persists.

And his 'reason' was 'because if you want a proper job it will need ALOT more work and it would cost alot more'

Look, I have no problem paying more cash if you can get the job done good. AND if you cant do the job within the stated budget, then please let me know it is not within your capabilities so I can send it to someone who knows better. Basic business ethics ain't it? Instead you have to go 'okay okay, can can'. By the end of the day, I had to go home and set it up again because my guitar was in a worse state after the set up.

The ironic thing is, the last time i went to the shop to get it done by another guy I got much better services and my guitar's problem actually got fixed.

Surprised that no one mentioned Seekz. Not only does he do great custom pedals but excellent set-ups and mods too! and for reasonable prices
