Best luthier or repairman in Singapore?

Guitar Connection is the best, very experienced and nice guys in the business for a long time.

GC? *cough* *sputter* better to ask for a quote first and compare prices.

Don't compare prices, compare worksmanship. What's the point of paying cheap price for poor worksmanship? It's more worth it to pay good price for good worksmanship. Guitar Connection's worksmanship is superb and you get what you pay for.

And you get nasty surprises along the way, like $25 input jacks, 'mislabeled' pickups and a 'new' neck. If I wanted good workmanship and price was not issue, I would choose Malcolm in an instant, GC is not the first thing that pops into my mind.

And nice to see you back, van_halen.

Yes I agree with you but
CASE BY CASE BASIS!!

Anything to prove your claim? I send all my guitars there for the past 5 years without a single hiccup. Sure there were a few misunderstandings along the way but at least they bothered to explain which clears up all forms of doubt.

$25 input jack? did it include installation?

'mislabeled' pickups? I hang out at GC long enough to know that such a thing has never happened.

a new neck? I would love to have a new Allparts neck on my Squire strat any day. maybe I should send that in for repair in hopes I get a new neck.

You'd be surprised by the amount of repairs that GC gets everyday. Just take a peek in the office at the back and you'd know. If that is the case, why would they bother doing that kind of dodgy stuff?

If they have a reputation for being the biggest con shop around, they wouldn't be in business for more than 5 years.

The Guitar Connection guys are really fantastic. Every time I step into the shop, the salesmen will take the initiative to approach me and ask me nicely how can they serve me? Thumbs up to them for customer service, they are a big established shop around for many years and they still humble and in touch with customers. Most other shops I go to, the salesmen just slack around and treat you like invisible, they don't approach you or say hi or even look at you and smile.

Not to mention the excellent worksmanship. We are talking about experienced guys here in the guitar repair business for decades. Surely they must be at the top of their game in terms of repairs honed from many years of experience. I only trust them to repair guitars, I won't want to put guitar into the hands of any new guy.

Those people who flame them are just making unsubstantiated claims to make themselves look cool or know it all. Probably from kids who don't know any better. Kids follow trends, they don't follow tradition and established institutions. Guitar Connection is an institution in guitar repairs. Trends die out. Because only time can show who is the best. Guitar Connection has already proven that they are among the best in the business, they don't have to to prove anything to anyone anymore.

Hi everyone, I believe that everyone is entitled to their opinions but putting them in the public limelight like this will would affect any shop's business in a big way, so just be careful of what your posting here because this are people's reputations you are toying with without even knowing. I say if you have any problems with the shop then keep them to yourself and not blabber on about the problem that you had. I say if you have a problem with your repair, clarify with them about it. I've been to several guitar repair shops but my experience with Guitar Connection so far is good, they have been in the repair business the longest so at the end of the day I would trust them with my guitar because of their experience. I'm not siding anyone in this case, just find it's wrong to gang up and talk bad about a shop like that.

Once upon a time when i wanted to install orange drops for my Les Paul, i went around peninsular to get a quote. Only one shop came up with..

"Oh it's $60 per pickup. So $120 for both pickups if you want to install it here."

Thankfully i checked with other shops first.

Anyway back to topic, I'm not sure if beez does repairs for inlays but he's one of the best guitar tech's i've even seen. Prices are dead honest and extremely affordable. Give him a call to ask him!

Alright I think I should share my experience with Guitar Connection.

I brought my guitar over there for setup a couple of weeks ago , and it was done by this guy called Danny.
Before he did the setup , he told me what he was going to do with the guitar , adjusting the truss road to straighten the neck , re string , tune up , clean the fretboard etc , all for $50 .
And everything was done pretty well .

It's because of shit like this that I started making my own electronics upgrades. It's ridiculously simple to change caps!

As for Beez, I better not comment coz I don't want to start a discussion, but I'll never take my guitar there again. Once was enough.

Thanks to all for your suggestions!

Hi all,

I'm picking up my guitar again after almost 10 years, and its interesting to go around the various guitar shops again. Certain shops being mentioned in this thread fit my experiences.

Without naming names, I've had a fantastic re-introduction into the guitar world when I dropped by a certain Woodlands guitar shop. The staff there patiently answered my queries and since then, I have bought 2 guitars, an amplifier, countless accessories and carried out numerous guitar mods for my other guitars in my growing collection. Workmanship is good, too! This is a shop that makes friends and business. In fact, I just bought a pedal board from them today!

Another shop where I spend my time and money at nowadays is a shop in the basement of Excelsior Hotel. They are the dealers for a certain British amplifier and effects company, and from the first visit I made to test and eventually buy a pedal, I've been made to feel welcome. No pressure to buy anything, no airs, just friendly service. As a result, I've bought a guitar, an amp, 2 pedals and other accessories from them. I swung by for a chat last week and despite telling them I'm not buying anything, I was given the chance to test just about the whole range of expensive guitars! Sure, it is still a business and I know they are making a sales pitch but I'm sure we wouldn't mind such service, right? Just be sure not to abuse good service!

On the other end of the spectrum, you get shops that have the "I've been here for a while so, screw you" mentality. I saw some rather rare effects pedals in a certain shop's window and went in to ask about it. Before I could finish my sentence, the owner shot back "Not for sale!" and just looked away, leaning on his glass cabinet. Nursing my broken heart, I vowed never to go there again. *Sob!*

Other shops have the same effect on me simply by reading their price tags. I guess that's how they do it; filtration of customers by wealth and/or desperation for a certain item. I'm neither wealthy nor desperate.

Apologies for digressing from the thread topic, but I just felt like typing and blabbering!

Luthier or repairman? I don't know much, but I go to Mike from SV a lot. Else, you might want to try Woodworkz and see if they have anybody to recommend. That's my contribution to this thread! Flame away, folks!

:D
