Best electronic drumset to get

How does mesh heads sound like?...are they totally for silent practice or do they juz dampen the overall sound only.

Reason i'm gonna get an e-kit is cos i live in a hdb block and i wan to jam without cops knocking on my doors.

well, mesh heads do have a sound.... but they wont be distinguishable between toms and snare,

i would havfe to say for both, if u have an acoustic set, and u put on mesh heads, the thrill isnt there cos everything sounds the same unless u get a drum module. they do emit sound but compared to an acoustic kit, it still quite low.
the best route is to get a cheap acoustic kit like peavey/lazer or the likes. cos all u need is the drum shell. put some mesh heads on get a drum module....... and ure done :P

Hmmm...cool, getting a cheap drum kit is defintely the option for me since i'm working on a low budget.

Anyway, another alternative besides making diy pads is to get an acoustic set with mesh heads on them, put on drum triggers (like the roland RT-5S, pintech etc ) and link them up to the module.

But a question is do these drum triggers have dual -zone/ rimshot capabilites. anybody got any experience with them? Do share. thanks. :)

Also there is the problem with hi-hats and cymbals.

my first conversion was a pacific chameleon wit mesh heads, but due to shortage of some items i decided to mount my piezo triggers like Ddrum redshots (juz pasted on the heads)
cons---- it didnt trigger well, lots of false trigerring
pros---- fast and easy to set up.

buyin piezos/buzzers from sim lim tower is cheaper den getting roland triggers.
and it has more room for customization (single zone/dual zone)

hi hats and cymbals are the same as well, ive been scouting ard for cheap plastic practice cymbals, but shops usually sell them with the practice pads, not individually. u can also use cheap cymbals, but some work is required to mute the sound and dampen the resonation.

hihats depends on yer preference. i have succesfully converted an acoustic hihat stand with my old DM5. the dm5 hihat controller juz needed an on/off switch(open/closed sounds) unlike roland which uses some potentiometers for its open/closed and in between sounds.
