5 years ago on the 13th december Death's Chuck Schuldiner passed away.(Kinda ironic)
One of death metal's greats. Gone but not forgotten.

Charlie Shuldiner; one of the more intellectual proponents of death metal. DEATH lives. RIP...

Great player and 1 of the first death metal band that i actually could listen to without cringing. R.I.P. Chuck

Interesting fact: By the time of Spiritual Healing, which is only thier 3rd album, chuck declared that Death was no more a death metal band,

Chuck is definately an inspiration to me.. But when Chuck started the band Mantis (Earlier Death), he wanted to make his music sound deathish and technical

It was Mantas actually. With Mantas and earlier Death he wanted them to be the the most intense and heaviest band. Which I think he succeed if you listen to "Scream Bloody Gore" and "Leprosy". No other band at that time I think has that intensity. Only afterwards he got into technical stuff, probably influenced by Athiest.

If they are no more a death metal band, What genre are they then?

Ya mantas haha thanks for correcting bro. Death is one of the pioneers of death metal and the first time i listened to death i loved it. Chuck is one of the greatest composers to me and my fav guitarist next to laiho. Listen to voices of the souls, it gets into your emotions

Good question. I'm not sure also.. but his lyrics turned to more moralistic and spiritual. But for most of us Death still remains a death metal band.

I think we have to look beyond the boundaries of genre and just appreciate the music.

Granted, I believe most who ask just what to know for know-ing's sake, which is fine.

However, good music is good music!

I do like the Sound of Perserverence album a lot, that is my favourite extreme vocals so far. The topics he sang make more sense than many of the other gore-inclined bands - a sign of maturity.

He is one of those guitarists with an absolutely HORRID tone!!! BUT! It works for the music... thin, mid scooped, fakish sounding, totally compressed, but that's his tone isn't it?

omfg i forgot ...lets observe 1 min of silence for him.

its truely a uber sad for us metalheads. CRYSTAL MOUNTAIN PWNS ALL!!

haha..anyway in loving memory of him R.I.P man.

he passed away from brain cancer right?

YEAH CRYSTAL MOUNTAIN!!! Im not sure what cancer but i think it should be stomach cancer ah.. But hail chuck!

Ya brain cancer.. But damn sad because he recovered the first time but it came back and he passed away cause he didnt have funds for the operation.. He could've lived :(
