Be Honest

Hmm..like children of bodom..melodic death.. some of my frens enjoy the music but not the vox..but for me i kinda think it fits into the music and it sound great the way it is..i do get a lil pissed off too when pple diss music in general n yep i do get these sorta comments frm pple " eee metal music so noisy all screaming n yelling".. n one thing i notice..pple who usually dun listen to more alternative music ie maybe rock/heavymetal/prog so on and so forth usually jus classified all these genre into...punk..
Like again i often get remarks like " ohhh you punk ah" " you listen to punkrock hor" "wahhh so punk" -_-'' ( even when i mention bands like steve vai/ symphony x).

Things that i noticed...as i used to go to local metal gigs alot..if u hear bands like cannibal corspe, cof, thoes black/death metal band..vox is usually growling or screaming ( but even then..u can actually hear the words) not sure if any of u notice that..if u guys dig these sorta music ure realise..wheras i notice sometimes bands dat tried to do covers of these bands..some of then jus plain scream ( u cant hear the words at all). i guess thats the diff between a really gd vox...

Of course maybe in some genre, there may be screaming whitout any form of lyrics..but what i jus commented is on most death/black metal (voxing).

jus my 2 cents tot..hope i din offend anyone... :)

if you're talking abt growling, I think Angela Gossow of Arch Enemy has a very awesome growl. Thicker and more aggressive than most guys.

yes! i couldn't believe their vocals was done by a female last tme...incredible!!

mm yea. what i wanted to hear.

hey san, maybe we should try screaming some maiden songs.
\m/

You want to end up like CoF is it. Sheesh. You scream yourself. I don't know you.

i said MAYBE
heh.

Em's too high to scream anyway,
it would more likely be a growl.

lets stick to singing.
prefer that.

hey guys. just thought of starting a topic where we can all be honest abt one another's genre of music.
not to start a riot or anything.
just so that we can understand one another's culture and music.
why we do the stuff we do.

lemme get the ball rolling.

i think screaming in metal songs is redundant.
spoils the whole image of metal.
what is the reason for the screaming?
i have people who give me weird looks when i tell them that my band and I are a metal band.
"huh? metal? eee so noisy scream and scream"
i always looked at metal music as songs that talk abt things that people seldom think abt, or they do think abt it but are afraid to say it.
thats where metal artists bring it forth.
but if you scream, i do not think anyone can understand the song.

just my 2 cents worth.
wanna see how far this can go.
sorry to offend anyone. =)

cheers.
Yay someone who thinks alike. I cant stand screaming or growling - gives metal a bad name.

Sebastian bach screams but everyone loves him. There r good screamings too.

I m not sure, but it seems people here equate screaming to growling.

haha. true.

okay. its the GROWLING.
or at least screams in a song that are "supposed" to be lyrics?
i just cant seem to understand what they are screaming right there and then.
maybe i guess, its the mike problem.
not clear.
hmmm

cheers.

from autumn to ashes = good screaming. you can still hear the lyrics through it all. go have a listen!

to me scrreaming is just music that the person creates using the vocals. I always view music the same as the arts. sometimes people prefers impressionism, sometimes people like surrealism. hmm maybe because im an art student. i treat pure noise as music too. theres nothing correct or wrong 8) the most important thing for musicians i guess is to believe in themselves and enjoy what they do even if everybody hates u.

Yea i guess. Eric Adam and Primal Fear screams - MELODIC screams that are actually a note are really cool. But the wails and growls of all that death and black metal I can't stand. On the contrary, I like slipknot - They are an amazingly underestimatede band, but they are my exception.

thanks. at least i can now see the growling and screaming as an instrument.

as a way to empower the song.
gonna listen around and check it out.

when i heard arch enemy today and my friend told me it was a girl, you should have seen my face. i was impressed. yeah, i hate it when people diss other's favourtie genres that they don't like. its... annoying. if i break into a simple plan song, people go on and on and on about how gay they are.
