Bassists! What are some of the compressor units you guys recommend and own!

thats why i dont bother with things like eq at gig. at most you will get a sweet, sweet sounding... monitor

totally agree. i wouldnt bother to fiddle around with the sound too much, as the soundman can go in a totally different direction with your bass tone if he wants. and rightfully so too, because from his position he'll hear something much closer to the actual mix...

...did someone mention bass day? :p

A good cheap quality compressor i'd recommend is MXR's Dynacomp. I think it retails for about $130 and it's got two knobs! That's all you really need if you're starting out, and if you're more experienced, aren't too fussed but just needs something that works..

in context, i try to set up fast, get my gear going, tweek a few knobs and play my set. You can either spend the duration of your set tweaking knobs, or set it up and good to go -)

Warning: the dynacomp does colour your sound a bit, but for a P-Bass plectrum player like me, it helps add an attack to my strings that i rather like.

i tend to switch it off when i go fingerstyle because it gets too even and defeats the purpose of me switching to fingers.

your REDDI is the hugest di box i've ever seen. i gotta organize a bass whore day to check your shit out.

haha. after i ord man! and i have no idea if it works going into an amp.. i've only tried sending the signal into an audio interface

will let you know if it can be hooked up to an amp, peter at a-designs told me it was a line-level output, and the output impedance is the same as my aggie pre.. wish me luck!

TS: try the art levelar for a good compressor that doesn't break the bank. i've heard good things about the bbe opto-stomp but have never had the chance to actually try one out

+1 on the multicomp ...

was there with jbarker at davis back then trying out the multicomp ...

pretty transparent circuitry .... the tube emulation function is pretty awesome too ...

I have had the Aphex PF, Alesis 3636 rack mount compressor, Alesis Nano Comp, got a Demeter Compulator last year.
The PF compression was transparent, but a little too mild for me, Nano Comp is fine for me, 3636 is alright (not practical in pedalboards), and the Demeter Compulator is a neat little unit that gave me higher compression ratios that the Aphex PF lacked. It has better tracking of the bass in my opinion.
I like the Demeter Compulator in my pedal board, Nano Comp for more flexibilty in my compression as it has more knobs for better fine tuning.
