Bass string with good tone

when they were released, a few TBers really wanted as fair a comparison as possible that they strung BOTH the blue and black labels onto the bass, on alternate strings

That's cool. Actually whats the diff between both the blue and the black label?

But sadowkskys are really nice i feel.

i love the way the blue labels sound also.... the only problem i have is the looser tension of the blue labels and made my strings feel very floppy.... i prefer tighter strings...

but anyways, i think i won't take them out of my bass, as the sound is pretty sweet!

I love Ernie Ball's Hybrid Slinky Bass Nickel Wound .045 - .105 on my MusicMan.

Switched from RotoSounds 606 Superwounds.
Very happy and within budget, imho.

Cheers

whtats the perfect string for drop tuning. i mean go really low like A-C-G-C-A kinda tuning, something with a high tension

instead on depending on the gear...

y not getting ur fingering right.

finger is ur ultimate tone. whatever $10000 dollar string u spent. its back to the basic again..

unless u play with pick.

This section is discussing about the tones of different strings. -_-

looks like im the only DR-Hi beam fan here. haha!

guess it's too bright for most people?

i like bright. i only use stainless steel sets for tone. TBH i haven't tried hi-beams. some people don't like SS because they eat the frets, the fingers, everything. how's the feel?

i probably won't change so soon because i still have 2 sets of sadowsky SS blues as backup.

but if i had to choose a nickel set, i'd go with the prisms.

ya precisely. with my fingers i can manipulate the tone into anything. be it fresh rounds, flats, even acoustic. all those guys who use different brands and different TYPES of strings are retards, and manufacturers are cashing in by the millions purely on placebo effect.

i'm wondering how long before we'll see another post like, "what effects? i use a cable between my bass and amp!"

I used a set of warwick SS last time.. really ate my fingers hahaha. i found that it got dull quite quickly? is that true for SS or is it the brand?

and yeah i like prisms alot, but can't find it anymore. think will go to swee lee one day to look around. may try EB slinky soon.

oh yes... I heard that should use higher gauge strings for drop tunings? is this true? or should I just use specifically tuned strings?

iirc, higher gauge means higher tension, which is what you want because when you drop tune your strings will get floppy.

so you're saying the entire population of posters in the TB Strings section is made of retards? no offense.

also, i still don't think it's possible to manipulate a set of dead strings into sounding like fresh ones. or making flatwounds sound like roundwounds. sure, tone comes from the fingers. my brother has played my bass on several occasions and his tone has always been different from mine. but shouldn't it be limited by the strings to a certain extent?

Goner. Totally.

Chill .. he was just being sarcastic. =)

OK, after getting so many replies, I'm confused about which strings to get.

How 'bout I make things a lil easier:

  • Mine's a Dean Zone precision bass
  • I play Dropped C
  • I play Nu-Metal

With these 3 points, anyone can suggest a good set of strings? From what I read in the replies, the ones that seem worthy of trying is Sadowsky Blue Label and Rotosound Swing 66.
