Bass Problem - Help needed

Hi all,
I'm a relatively new bass player. I was practicing on the bass plugged into an amp at home when suddenly the bass wasn't producing any sound anymore.

I've tried changing the battery but it's still not working.

What could be the problem?

Help really needed, thanks alot guys.

Thanks for the reply. The amp still has those kind of static sounds coming out though (you know, like when you plug the cable into your guitar when your amp is on)..

So could it be the amp problem or more likely to be the guitar problem?

hi there 8)

1. if you don't smell anything when it occurred, highly unlikely it's a fuse giving way. if it is, your amp won't even be alive now (assuming that it is- izzit?).

2. it might be a bad solder- the next time you plug your bass into the amp, twist the cable at both the bass end then the amp end. if suddenly, your set up is alive, then blame the dodgy soldering.

3. if your bass is an active unit- check battery please...

get back to us please...

Thanks for all your help guys.

Okay, the fuse has definitely not given way then as the amp's still working.
I've also tried using different cables and just changed the battery.

I'm suspecting it's the cables in the guitar itself that's causing the problem.

I guess I'll have to send it for repair. Do you guys know any good places to repair bass guitars?

Help is much appreciated, thanks all!

I suggest try changing cables first. Alot of times it's the connection either on the bass guitar or amp that's quite bad. Quite common actually. hahha ..

if it doesn't work trying bringing it down to any guitar shop to check out the electronics/jack.

aiyo try another guitar lah fren.....or just plug in a cable into amp turned on and touch the the tip of the other end ....if it znng znng ...then your amp is ok, your axe got problem :D

Thx for all your help!

Just as I thought, it's the wires in the bass itself, I've gotten it repaired alr, thx everyone!

I suspect it's the cable's soldering. try it again with another new set of cables.
