Basic pedals for beginners

yeah me too..i bought the zoom g2 at about 120....u know what for a starter.i suggest buying a multifx...as its price is almost the same as an individual pedel...

how about overdrives?
like get the fulltone fulldrive-2 mosfet! hahah.
i just got it recently and it rocks. atleast for me.
probably can be used as a long term overdrive and slowly experiment with all the different settings. ahaha. (:

Start with a compact multi-effects (not one like the POD XT Live, etc). Start with what Faizalhacker has - the Zoom G2. All the basic effects and more, and the amp simulators (distortion / overdrive / fuzz modes).

Then once you've got an idea what you need, you can move on to single pedals. I used a Line 6 FloorPOD but after a while, I discovered that I'm simple and all I need was an overdrive and a high-gain distortion, so single pedals is much more economical for me (apart from the fact that analog pedals tend to sound better!).

But if you need a truckload of effects, you'll wanna either start building your pedalboard over the next few years, or upgrade to a larger multi-effects.

Use other people's one first... HAHAHAHAHA... *ok, i'm lame...*

Overdrive I found quite wide range = Boss DS-1, very mod-able too...
Distortion I've been gassing about = Beta Aivin HM-200
Flanger / Phaser = Still searching...
Wah = Come on, need I spell it? Jim Dunlop Jim Dunlop GCB-95 Crybaby Wah

For me, these 4-5 pedals are my ideal, complete collection. (then again unless a truckload of gas hits me again...)

I don't believing in equating budget with beginner, you should make the most of your resources no matter how noob you are.

Good choices for distortion:
EHX Metal Muff
AMT Du Hast

and if you want to go upmarket,
SubDecay Black Star
This is not a metal grade distortion, I personally use it as a booster for my Metal Muff, both pedals are on low gain settings of course.

This I don't really understand... Metal Muff basically creates wat sorta sound?

For begineers, you could try to get multifx pedal. It's relatively cheaper than standalone pedal. Althoough its quite limited to adjust the sound settings of each effects, from there you might be able to get the feel of how the different effect sound is like. This will help you to determine what kind of pedal you would want to get in the future.

Pardon me, but I thought Ds-1 is a distortion pedal... A rather mild, generic one but a distortion pedal nonetheless.

An overdrive pedal in the Boss collection would be the BD-2, OD-3, SD-1, DN-2.

J-Rock music, hmm, what bands do you cover?

I personally play X-Japan, gazette, alice nine, LiZ, luna sea and a few other jrock bands.

I started with some cheap beta aivin models like the ds-100 distortion, the dd-2 digital delay, and the od-100 overdrive, but for j-rock music, well, for my case, needs quite a lot of pedals. So i decided to get a Line 6 Floor POD Plus, it's cheaper than the pod xt live, and better than the older floor pod. Gives me lots of combinations and effects which most j-rock songs need. Saved a bunch of cash from spending it all on a single multi efx, rather than buying individual pedals.

Oh, and if you're intending to get individual pedals, do think about how you're going to arrange them, cause the arrangement affects their sound too. =)

Good luck with your pedals =D

noein>

i play mostly gazette, alice nine. and some others. jrock tabs very hard to find.
but not many singaporean play jrock.

i gt a beta aivin HM n a Line 6 floor pod plus.. i find it very useful.
