Bad guitar and gear = good player?

I'd like to share a bit of my personal experience. I first played guitar on a classical guitar playing all those classical stuffs and then through country with the same classical guitar that wasn't mine in the first place. Grew older...shiok with rock music...still practice with that classical guitar. Everytime goes to studio for practice got confused as the frets are longer. Hehehehe! Go to studio rent gadgets.

I can't afford any of those things as it is too costly. But my advise is, get something you feel good in using. Irregardless of brand or make. As long you feel good using it, that's the whole idea. I now owned a couple of multi-effects, stomp boxes, guitars, amplifiers..and I'm always Gassing for more.

just get what ever you can get lah, then when u play just close your eyes imagine a good sound coming out, imagine u playing live in budokan with a full band whahahaha.

1) If you start with a bad tone, you will rely on your skills to make your playing sound better. So it will make you a better guitarists than those who have all those mesmerizing tone that makes anything sound great.

2) You need a good tone from the beginning because a bad tone might dishearten you. A beginner might give up on playing guitar if he hates the sound coming out of his gear. You need a nice tone that resembles your favorite band to encourage you to practice more.

Whats your opinion on this?

That's a damn good analysis you have there man. If only if I had the same thinking when I was younger, I wouldn't be suffering with some stupid crap guitar I bought on impulse.

imo a good guitarist is someone who can manipulate his gear to make their playing sound decent no matter what gear he has.
be it some random china brand guitar with cheap pedals or maybe some wah lao expensive guitar and handmade boutique pedals.

but going along with this belief, im still suffering from GAS GAS GAS!

I have to say one has to have passion. If a person is passionate without even having a single guitar (eg practise by borrowing etc.) then he/she will turn out even better given good equipment.

For players who have good gear but so so attitude then the gear will turn to museum exhibits sooner or later.

Some may argue that good gear may push that passion a little further but how far are you willing to push? When passion runs out get a new guitar?

if your passion runs out even if you already have a decent gear, then you know that that is not for you

But some people may start on impulse thinking they have the commitment. But honestly. The first three months are hell. Learning chords when you think you'll be some superstar. Hahah. That was me last time... Fortunately my passion didn't run out. :D

I started out with crapper gear. Became much, much easier to play when i got a new guitar, but i'd rather have good gear at the start first.
