Bad Apple (MBP15" Logic Board)

james, i read months ago on a forum about a guy with the same problem, except this guy had coffee spilled on his keyboard area..his mbp refused to start up but he could find no coffee stains or faulty parts visibly on pulling the logic board. He threw it into his closet for 4 months before one day deciding to pull it and he cleaned the board with rubbing alcohol and the mac just fired up , only thing is the keyboard was shot..so it could be some component causing your mac to not start up..try to google and you might come up with something someone else has tried..one thing might be resetting smc..hold power button for 5 secs..

Ok good, did apple give you a case number?(or name of the person you spoke to?)

to step 2:
Go to AMK service Centre(QCD Technology? ..hope they're still around), last I visited them.. gorgeous receptionists!!
Send in your powerbook.. or in this case mbp, tell the reception you sending in for verification as instructed by apple customer care dept.
Mention to them abt the recall programme & you've confirmed the batch as advised by apple customer care dept.. blah blah blah etc. etc..

go to step 3:
hope all goes smooth so no need take step 3.. lol!

Hi Jem007, the more I read about other people's mbp the more disappointed I am. Cos most of them got theirs replaced by Apple with no problem. Only me have problem. Haiz... must be my long hair and unshaven look.

eieio, QCD Technology is an Apple Authorised Service Provider? Wouldn't that be the same as Micro2000? I just paid them $120 to take back my machine. I am just worried that QCD might turn out the same.

normally quite ok since its a case by case basis..
if you're worried ask the reception how to go about it since you have a case number

i didnt know abt qcd co. too because ive been going there even before apple sub to them
sent in my ibook there with no problem, it was due way long 3years after the logicboard recall programme

back in 2000, when m2000 just started i was so pissed with the nonsense fee
i left my broken $5k pbg3 there.. heart pain.. standing by one's own principle can be very costly!

:(

you know the price quoted for replacing just the lcd of a macbook, is as good as getting a new one. INSANE! thats what they want its all a marketing ploy.

Hi James!!! :)

Check this out: http://www.slashgear.com/apple-exte...arranty-for-overheating-macbook-pros-0145488/

Especially of interest is the sentence:
"Apple has determined that some MacBook Pro computers with the NVIDIA GeForce 8600M GT graphics processor may be affected. If the NVIDIA graphics processor in your MacBook Pro has failed, or fails within three years of the original date of purchase, a repair will be done free of charge, even if your MacBook Pro is out of warranty."

A colleague have her logicboard died on her. She went to Apple Svc Center and got the logicboard replace for free. They diagnosed the problem as relating to the faulty vid card, and thus extended to the logicboard. Not sure which Apple Svc Center she went to, but she collected her MBP from the one at Funan. Try sending your MBP to the Service Center at Funan, it might help.. I believe hers is the 2.4Ghz MBP, but not sure of the year. How about yours? Same Graphic Card?? I have a MBP 2.4Ghz, bought in July '07. All's well so far. Been abusing it for Graphic Design and Music Recording for more than 2 yrs, but i'm on Applecare.. ;)

Finally got my MBP back!!! After all the wooha, I sent it to www.pcdreams.com.sg . The guys there are very experienced in fixing notebook stuff. They got a new logic board and my mbp is working again.

The best part is they charged very low price. Remembered I was quoted $1700 by the authorised service centre? www.pcdreams.com.sg charged me lesser than 30% of that.

1.7k is cheap, one of the girl in the office spill coffee on a 13" MBP and the repair cost from sapura is $3.2k that is $700 more expensive than a new one.

talking abt nonsense bs.

There is a rumour that some service shop exchange non-warranty faulty part and exchange it with Apple as warranty part.
