Audio Taper Pots

Anyone knows where to get quality audio taper pots? Preferably not too expensive.

I have a bunch of them CTS 500K audio taper. Selling at $6 each. More than 5 will be $5.50.

Also have a bunch of stainless steel screws for Fender type pickguard, Gibson type, neck bolt on screw and single coil pickup screw.

hmm i was juz wondering...what happens to the sound if we switch the pots from 500k to 250k??

A 500k pot is meant for humbucker pups

250k for single coils.

50k/25k for active pups. (I think 50k for hum actives and 25k for active singles - someone correct me if i'm wrong)


If you are on a 500k pot, changing to 250k will give you a warmer tone. Like in the case of the tone pot. It WILL be warmer and when you roll the tone, it very very quickly gets less trebly and warm.

Of course, you can go crazy, and have 1meg pots. Its like having no pots there. :twisted:

Well, pots even when full on, still have a certain resistance. So 1meg pots will be as if your pots aren't there... and having 250k pots will have more resistance than the 1meg and 500k.. .so its a warmer tone.

Ppl use 250k pots mainly for single coils, since they are very bright. 500k for hums because they are usually warm sounding.

yes, if you use 250k tone pots for humbuckers, it will be warmer and less trebly.

I think if its a 250k for vol and 500k for tone (for humbucker pups) , you will have a slightly warmer tone (due to vol pot) but the tone pot will be like any other 500k pot for humbuckers.

I have a 500k vol and 250k fender no load tone pot. With the tone pot engaged, its a sligthly warm tone, warmer than my previous 500k tone pot. And the tone rolls off much faster and more. With the tone pot disengaged (bypassed), there's a distinct increase in brightness, obvious thru good monitors.

my Washburn comes H-H-H (middle is a Hot Rails) and i kinda miss that warm tone from my strat... so looking for a 250K. not changing the 500K tone pot cos it's push pull.

500k pots can be modded to 250k, I can prewire that mod for you. I might have some 0.47 around.

Yup... they can be wired to 250k.. and coz its wired, you can get a really close to 250k value... not that a few k matters much but well, if you are anal...

audio tapered pots should be used on volume pots but... should an audio tapered pot be used on tone pot?

what effect does it have? similiar to the volume one?
