Having been in the scene for quite a while ... I can say I have seen some rather "chalat" & one kind audience reactions ... the "never applaud" story normal but how about others? so far we have ever seen ..

1. drunk customer demanding we play their request ,.. even though we dono the song

2. drunk customer who invaded the stage ...

3. drunk customers pissing in a corner of the room

lets here from you ppl ...

Figure out how to make fun of them for heckling until they dunno where to hide their face. After all, you have the mic, not them.

ya, i 'm sure that the bar owner will thank you for chasing away his customers....

Have to say, aside from the pissing in the corner story, the rest are all pretty tame really...

Haha.. Drunk cust pissing! Tat's so funny! They really got the guts :D

Eh, my experience will be

1) Drunk Cust invading the stage and trying to play ur instruments when its break time. This is damn frustrating. @!#@# Cos sometimes they will damage ur equipment.

2) Drunk cust coming up to stage to ask u to drink after every song. At 1st, its seems cool cos it makes u feel like a rockstar. But then and there again, its not really fun to be drunk on stage while u are "working".

3) Or audiences trying to sing louder than u where in fact they are singing the wrong lyrics.

4) Entertaining custs when u're taking ur break which means more booze. And more booze mean u get high and how to play when u're drunk.
There was once i had to cut my setlist short cos me and my bandmates was too damn drunk to play. :P

But then and then again, which job in the world lets u play music and booze! Its tough work but i am still happy nonetheless :)

Peace :)

hahaha yeah damm rite...

we had gays come up and body dance all over our female vox too and also Britnavy dudes (drunk) grab her feet from offstage... bouncers had to get in the act ...

oh once in the early 90s in a "lesbian club" ... I actually witnessed a gang of butch hammer the shit outta 2 drunk kiwi navy fellas .... funny siak .. but i always kept an unused guitar neck on stage - just in case - ;)

Josh - yeah man ... know wat u mean about the wanna jam on your instruments problem - dammm fed up with this aspect ....

As for the drink issues - hahaha yeah thats the 'good" part - unless you going back to work the next day at 9am .... man ... back in those days I cud tahan ... now days - no way ..2 may 3 beers tops for me

Haha.. Tat's damn Funny, gays coming up to grab the vox.. Yea, that's where u'll need bouncers. I think clubs usually more happening cos a lot of drunk ppl ard to do all kinds of funny things. But good for u man fgl, u play at clubs got bouncer, i play in a pub and the thing that suck is we're the musicians are our own bouncers. Hehe.. So its kinda irritating..

Yea, I agree the work part. A daytime job which we need plus night time for our passion. Its really tough.. All in the Name of PAssion!
Plus its not really glamourous to get a hangover the next day and ur boss will still expect u to be in ur best form for both daytime jobs and nighttime "jobs"

But its still fun though. Though sometimes i feel the crowds don't really appreciate real music, they want entertainment. Tat's y they say there's no music industry in Sg, only entertainment industry.

FGL, you certainly have got some interesting experiences! I guess if one has performed enough, you get to see some really weird stuff!

Most of my audiences are pretty well behaved (whew!).

But I did remember Jeremy Monteiro came to our JC to perform for the entire school of students in the late 80s (at that time, it was the band Jeramzee). They were really good at the solos, but there was no response from the audience. Jeremy had to tactfully tell the students in the middle of the performance that in jazz music, it's "courtesy" to applaud after each soloist had done their solo. He didn't look very happy. After he said that, the audience attempted to applause after each solo section - it wasn't a very good attempt. Felt really sorry for them. But it did open my eyes to see what a person can do with a DX7! That was what Jeremy was using at that time.

I dunno about my own experiences but I heard about this poor fella who had to play Hotel California whole night...hmm I wonder who it was?? Heehee.

Haha.. That's y i said there's no music industry only entertainment industry.

Majority of the masses dun really know how to appreciate music, esp jazz. Only true musicians know that to play jazz, it really requires skills and theory.
I guess u can't blame the audience, to ppl who appreciate jazz, they will know it takes lotsa prac for soloing etc, but for those who don't, they'll think its boring.

I've been to blujazz pub b4 and seen Mr Jeremy Monterio play with his bandmates. Absolutely amazing and fantastic. They really know their stuff, they'll keep endless soloing from Jeremy's keyboards, to drums solo, to bass solo, to saxaphone solos to trumpet solos. Totally amazing. 3 saxaphones! Wow.. U guys can pop by there to chk them out.
Its like they know all the songs, any songs they play and they really encourage the younger musicians to join them, those students from Laselle etc.

Never fails to amaze me.

I guess ppl needs to be educated that's y we have tons of rules and regulations in sg

Cheers! Peace! :)

Haha.. Yea man fgl. Either these jazz players are really talented or they are really "Crazy" Musicians. They seem to be able to play never ending solos. Play till u're high man! Haha :D Totally amazing!
