LAMC Productions is pleased to present Grammy Award winning folk music legend JUDY COLLINS Live at the Esplanade on May 26, 2006 at 7:30 pm.
As a child Collins studied classical piano, making her public debut at age 13 performing Mozart's Concerto for Two Pianos. However, it was the music of Woody Guthrie and Pete Seeger, and the traditional songs of the folk revival of the early 1960s, that piqued Collins' interest and awoke in her a love of lyrics. Three years after her debut as a piano prodigy, she was playing guitar. She eventually made her way to Greenwich Village, New York City, where she played in clubs until she signed with Elektra Records, a record label with which she has been associated for 35 years.
Among her many songs Judy Collins is particularly noted for her rendition of Joni Mitchell's "Both Sides Now" on her classic 1967 album, Wildflowers. "Both Sides Now" has since been entered into the Grammy's Hall of Fame. Judy Collins’ music has always seemed to mirror a cause as well. From her participation in the 1964 Freedom marches in Mississippi ("Hey Nellie Nellie") to her political activism during the Vietnam War (Dylan's Masters Of War"),to the leadership role she has played on the forefront of women's issues ("Bread And Roses"), to her role as UNICEF Special Representative for the Arts, Ms. Collins has always fought the good fight. She continues to create music of hope and healing that lights up the world and speaks.
