Are PRS guitars any good?

Alright guys, after months of craving and fail transactions, Eagle has finally landed today. I asked awhile ago Gibson or PRS (created 40 pages tread by the way), someone said it’s a matter of which one first. That is true. Gibson comes first and now PRS custom 22 in dark cherry wrap. I got it with wide fat neck and 5 ways switch, need sometime to get used to it. I have play PRS singlecut before and I thought wide fat neck is okay, it is like les paul 60 neck but actually fatter than 60 neck, sigh…..should have spend a bit more time and money to find a wide thin. The store that i ordered doesnt have CU22 in wide thin.

I have a choice to change it to Custom24 trem ruby wide thin with 3 ways but I already have double locking 24 fret Ibanezes. Can’t decide. Anyway here are pics.

a coil spilt is a simple mod you can do with any humbucker equipped guitar .

duh. but the question you want to ask yourself. would you want to mod your so called "expensive" gibson? or would you rather leave it as it is. its like buying a farrari and taking out its engine and putting in a proton engine. but if you got some cheap ibanez and did that its understandable. but not on a more costly guitar. the whole point of getting a high end guitar is cause you like its tone and the way its set up. why bother changing it.

You can't compare that, because by taking a ferrari engine out an installing a proton engine, you're actually downgrading. By putting a coil spilt you are in no way downgrading your guitar, and it might even work wonders. A guitar, as expensive as it is, is still an instrument, and if it can bettered, if the coil split can give you more viable tonal options to explore, then I don't see why not.

If modding a guitar give more tonal variety, why not? In this case, it's like buying a Ferrari and modding it with a better engine, not a Proton engine. Anyway, to each his own.

Ok you clearly aren't very smart . I'm just saying that you can split the coils of the humbucker and that it's a simple mod . Why get so defensive over it? I mean yeah since your PRS costs a stunning $3750 and you want it to be exclusive and all .

What's wrong with modding an expensive guitar? It doesn't mean I'm taking out the good parts . I'm just adding stuff to it which to me will make it sound better. A Gibson isn't that expensive either , some stock parts are not of good quality and all .

Artists mod their amps and guitars . As long as you replace anything on that instrument thats already considered a mod . Are you telling me that they are putting proton engines into their farrari's too? Think about it .

Oh btw , be friendly or you'll be hated pretty fast . Which I can tell is already happening but hey "internet , it's serious business" hahah cheers babe

you dont see pros playing stock guitars.
you dont see artists using their stock signature guitars.
get the point?

haha bro, that guy's post has to be the dumbest of this year.
no intelligence detected at all, lets see how he enjoys his stock guitars. hmmm

are you a dumbass or a dumb ****?

Would like to think both but nvm.

Allow me to present to you a simple analogy.

There are different types of people who buy gibsons. Some buy gibsons to collect while others buy gibsons to play. Most of the time if the players are not too happy with their guitars, they will usually end up modding it. Collectors usually refuse to touch their guitars beyond anything that's stock (in fear of diminishing the value of the guitar).

There are also players who refuse to touch their guitars beyond stock condition as they have the "collector mentality". But some players cannot live without a mod like a coil split as it allows them more tonal variation (single coilish sound from a split humbucker or out of phase switching, which Jimmy Page used btw). Anyways if you swap out the pickups on a guitar, its also considered doing a mod on the guitar. Most people will usually mod their guitars to a certain extent to suit their preferences and style. Unless you tell me you own an actual vintage 1956 Les Paul Gold Top worth 250K (i think?). Otherwise small mods are more or less considered the norm and it will not severely diminish the value of the guitar concerned.

its personal preference but i think you are generalising the "stigma" that most snobs and beginners have when they first buy an expensive guitar. If you have that personal preference, by all means do stick to it but forcing your personal mantra down other's throats is just plain wrong. Your analogy of "some cheap ibanez" is also flawed as on the other side of the coin people will look at it as "hey its only a cheap ibanez, body and neck also like shit, mod so much for what? also waste money only". There are always two sides of the coin one should look at before establishing what's really true and your view in my opinion is too one sided to count for anything.

Damn, Ibanez guitars r CHEAP??? Man you must be joking seriously......good guitars r not judged by the price. It is all down to the player's feel.....so what if u have a very expensive guitar but can't appreciate it at all.....it is just senseless/nonsense lol. Btw many PRO players like steve vai, joe satriani, andy timmons, and john petrucci in the past swear by Ibanez guitars.........and it is by no means a company that makes "INFERIOR" guitars at all. Haiz........ignorance.........

There are expensive ibanez guitars im sure we all know that. some even costs way more than your run of the mill PRS guitars. But this joker is saying that he'll only understand if you wanna mod your "cheap ibanez" and you shouldnt mod your gibson or PRS or whatsoever cos its "expensive". Which doesnt make any sense to me at all.

Shouldnt a guitar be tailored to a player's preferences?

Haha totally agree with u bro.......but i guess he has learnt his lesson lah, give him a chance to mature. Well perhaps it is a total insult to fellow ibanez users, and for those of us who use ibanez understands just how gd it is......it is justplain ignorance on his side bro. Anyway lets just let it go lah keke.

aiya, that kid wants to feel special. no biggie. eh my guitar got coil tap leh ur gibson dont. u go mod ur gibson the value drop by half my prs better than ur gibson and ur lousy ibanez.

wow ignorance to the max..
