Hi all,

After much consideration and research between acoustic or electronic drums (yes i've read almost all the threads here on this debate. even read about the tontine-filled acoustic drums), i'm intending to get myself a dm10 studio kit. the question is no one seems to mention it here in soft. anyone owns one? care to share your reviews on this kit?

i've read other forums, mainly those from the USA, and they really seem to love it, due to its module and low price. the main concern raised was the acoustic sound of the mylar heads, with which they have a lot of mods for it, like mesh heads.

I've also seen that generally softies are more critical towards e-drums, so i wanna get reviews and comments from fellow softies who own this kit, before i make the plunge.

anyone? thanks!

Alesis is good,,comparable to roland( my personal opinion), the only backdraw is the resale price is not that good compare to the two popular marketed brand,,but if you intend to keep it until the kingdom come,,well thats ok..

I don't own an alesis dm10 but I did research up on e-drum kits a while back before deciding on the Roland td-4kx. It retails for around $2.5k at the only local distributor swee lee.

The alesis kits looked good but some people complained online that hardware was a problem or the drumheads would wear out slightly after a while, especially with hard hitters. I'm not sure how true that is, but that said the kit looked really good to me although with their special cymbals the kit would come close to $3k I think.

I'm rather happy with the td-4kx though I find it slightly pricy. Reviews have been good as well.

Go and try the kits out for yourself. Alternatively if you have access to drumsets elsewhere you could get a cheaper practice set at home and buy good cymbals to use at other venues :D

i will be owning one soon. it's going to be shipped to me in a month, though.

like you, i took sometime in referring to reviews and comments from different sites. and most, about 70%, even higher than that, have the same comments and review. they all love this ekit. luckily, musiciansfriend.com had this promo where you can have the kit for only USD 799, with free shipping and it's tax free. i never hesitated in ordering it.

from the reviews i got, most complaints are they had a hard time setting up the kit from the box. and most of them admitted not reading the manual that came with it. with the heads being mylar, that's not a problem at all. you can have it changed to coated, 2-ply or any skin you desire. but they never mentioned if it would work with mesh heads. probably, it would. the rack is sturdy according to the users. i think the best part of the kit is the module. it's very high-end, lots of feature. someone told me that the Pearl ekit has actually the same module. i'm not sure if that's true. RED box(Pearl module) is proprietary, but not from Pearl but it still pretty awesome it that's actually true.

i got an RMP5 from Roland, and i seldom use it which means a waste of money. but with the DM10, everyday's a drumming day, for sure.

wow nice lobang. But they do international shipping? Or v-post? I just checked with sinamex, their next shipment will roughly take about the same time.

My intentions exactly. Though I've read that adding rubber gaskets underneath the heads do actually give them a more acoustic feel. There are videos by helldrummer for mesh head mods, but I'm not a fan of mesh heads.

Not so sure about that too but they do look similar. Anyway the Pearl e-Pro kit is going for at least twice the price of the DM >.<

I've tried out the td4. No doubt it's good, but not a big fan of mesh heads, and comparing price and configuration betw the DM and the td4, I would still say DM. Anyway the td4kx2 is out in swee lee for about 2.8k bucks. The dm10 pro kit, which has the surge cymbals u mentioned, cost about the same.

My issue about not getting an acoustic set is mainly about the cymbals. Too loud for home use. Hahaha

If you manage to get the same deal as drummer4christ then actually it's really really worth it. Drum equipment prices tend to be overinflated in sg haha.

Yup the DM looks quite a good value for money and one thing I would say for sure they have an edge over roland is their module. Apparently it marked a new step forward for more entry-level modules with a lot of great and different sounds, and having played with the limited number of sounds in my roland kit I would say you would definitely want access to a lot more different sound packs as you play longer. Now you think, buying a drumset is NEVER EASY haha....

yeah haha. but i'm not a big fan of online shopping either. there's the power issue and the warranty issue. and i don't like having to pay a large sum of money first, then wait for it to come weeks later. haha.

now i'm pretty set on getting the DM. my concerns is mainly about problems that may arise from the set after prolonged usage. i wouldnt really have to worry about this if i'm getting an acoustic set =/

Hey drummer4christ, im really iching to buy my own dm10 set. Which site did you order yours? Free shipping is definitely a big bonus coz some sites costs about almost half of the set itself. We want your review after you get hold of your kit ok? Tnx.

The surge cymbals do have a big addon on the pro set! But reviews says ambient sound level may be abit loud to some. But aesthetically its really cool

the acoustic volume of the dm10 is loud. im not surprised if the surge cymbals are too.

oh well, due to circumstances i got myself an acoustic drum kit. heh. im loving it right now, though they are super muffled up.

the offer for the dm10 on musiciansfriend is still on but shipping is to US and a few other countries only. can share how much is the shipping to SG from there?

my guess would be around 300 bucks. or even more.

shipping for my snare costs around 100 bucks. thus the rough estimation...
