Anyone had experience buying instruments/gear online and successfully having it shipped to Singapore? I know there were a lot of threads about import duties, shipping costs etc. but has anyone actually gone through and bought say, an amp or a guitar?

heya vern, just received my fender noiseless pickups and pickguard tonight.

bought from guitar den, i called them, didn't go online to order. no taxes, just the cost of the pickups and pickguard and the shipping which was about $25 USD. thash it. receieved in a box with some crap packaging but it was ok cos my goods were in excellent condition. keke.

happy as a lark. gonna install tomorrow. anyone to recommend?

Guitar Den - you got URL? :)
<EDIT> -S'ok I found it easy enough on Google - thanks.

BTW - did you ever go New York and get your Mesa?

pretty upset over that. long story. in a gist, a promise was made and broken, so my plans went down the drain. shucks.

oh btw, they sent me the wrong pickups...just realized. dang-ed. or i could have made a mistake in my email to them after i called them...hmm. can't remember and didn't keep the email...shucks...anyways, all the same to me la. i dun mind. cos i thought i told them i wanted the Fender HOT nosieless pups, but they sent me the Fender VINTAGE noiseless pups instead...hmm.

Doh! Bad luck - sorry to hear that.

Well, I went ahead and bought a THD Univalve head from JM - it's absolutely amazing and I can't recommend the thing enough. Now all I need is a cab to be able to hear it properly instead of using phones. :)

I've bought quite a lot of stuff online for the past few years as I suffer from GAS periodically  like to share some experiences..

Remembered my first online purchase was the mesa triaxis from www.mattsmusic.com. Came well packed via UPS, and I was charged some extra taxes etc apart from the shipping costs. I think usually if the value of the item is above $500, there would be handling fees, GST etc. Paid using bank wire so the bank charged a fee for that as well. Took a few weeks to get everything done.

Consequently, got many guitars online all over the place..from www.chucklevins.com, www.guitartrader.com, www.basscentral.com etc and more recently from www.ishibashi-music.com. Some stores state explicitly they do not ship overseas due to dealer policies but sometimes they do if you email them and make alternative arrangements.

My experience with ishibashi had been the most pleasant. Fast shipping and communication and very well packed.

Gotten quite a lot of pedals etc from ebay as well. Sold two mesa amps on ebay to aussie land as well. Oh ya, sold a guitar once to Germany! I usually accept bank wire payments and I also use Paypal to pay/get paid for my items. I think what's most important is to use your discretion when you make online purchases. Always communicate with the buyer/seller well before taking the plunge. For ebay users, checking the user's feedback is also essential.

Hope this helps a little. Have fun buying!

Hey doode,

U might wanna check out the MrMisse forum. We are in the midst of collecting orders to get stuff from Ishibashi. And the total number of orders are hitting 6 - 7? You might wanna hop on and save on shipping...

vaisms: Hey just curious, how do you package a guitar for shipping out? Which service did you use?

That sounds like an interesting concept - I can't find the thread in the forum though, so how do I get on board? When do you think the shipping will take place?

The guitar was shipped in a hardcase..bubble-wrapped and packed in a box. I usually keep these boxes as they come in handy when you wanna sell the guitars next time.

I used Speedpost as it is much cheaper than UPS, Fedex etc unless you have an account with them.

vaisms ! how were the ishibashi guitars packed ?

My experience:

Found the item online: Marshall AVT112.

Rang Ishibashi and asked for Koichi (as the instructions say) but got Noriko - a young sounding girl. Reasonable English spoken.

Told her the item of interest - she e-mails me a costing and shipping price.

I e-mail some details and also pay via a secure link with my CC.

Few days later she mails me to say it has been shipped. I get an EMS tracking code that I can use to follow my item online.

3 days after, I check and it says 'arrived in Singapore'. I call Speedpost.sg.

They deliver it to my house (5 days since it was shipped) and I pay the GST on the doorstep on cash.

I upset my neighbours.

do they have an english catalogue on the ishibashi site? If its possible could you post a link to it? I tried navigating around but cant seem to find it. Thanks
