Has anybody ever laughed or poked fun at ur choice of guitar gear which consists of unknown, cheap, not so famous brands n when u start to plug in n play, those same dudes have their jaws dropped in shock at how good ur guitar tone is..anyone have any tales to share?

: )

Been in dat situation b4 but not exactly ppl laugh at me. ppl would wonder and ask the same question over n over again abt the guitar i'm using. i've been using 7-string guitar since the late 90's & whenever i had gigs ppl would approached me after the gig and ask me "is that a 7string?" until i get so tired of telling them that it is . now what i would do is whenever i encounter the same situation, i will give them a puzzled look and then look at my guitar headstock and start counting the machine heads. then i wud give them a surprise answer and said," OMG it is a 7-string!".... i love to see the reaction i get from them.. lol

its a yes for me! :)

ibanez tonelok ph-7 phaser...ppl have looked at it on my board and gone "what the?!"...and then when i engage it they go "wowwwwwww..."

:D

People always asked me what pickups I used in my strat, and its brandless. But when i plug it in, the single coil sounded SO DAMN good.

About the same thing here! My old cheapo Yamaha Pacifica always gets ridiculed but the reaction changes drastically once I plug it in.

as for getting poked fun at about gear, prolly getting a MIM strat over a jap one. dont ask me why either but boy was i happy with the choice i made and never looked back since.

tone is in the fingers =)

u've got some decent playing skills once you can make a no name guitar/pedal/amp/pick/string/cable/thing sound good =)

haha i remember a particular jam with a couple of softies. i was using some cheap gear at that time with no boutique effects while my contemporaries had. there were 2 ibanez tone loks and mostly stock boss pedals on my board.

However when we started jamming and dunno how many notes later, as we sat down outside macdonalds to chat and eat and i started receiving compliments. never been so flattered before. urgh. haha. especially enjoyed the reaction when they found out my guitar was completely stock(it was a midrange ibanez, non-prestige and non-GIO) and there were no mods to any of my pedals.

erm.. im guilty of judging people's skills by gear :(
dunno why though.. but i just feel that potential can be easier reached with the right tone..
i saw this kid shredding a sx guitar before, sounded great :)

zac89: That reminded me of the time when 2 years ago, I went to Swee Lee wanting to get a Fender 60th Anniversary MIM Strat n ended up walking out of a shop with a Squier Standard Strat. I found the latter more playable n the thing really screams at me. I had it for almost 6 mths, playing it like a dream until I sold it to get a Epi LP cos I wanted a heavy distorted sound (big mistake) but tat didn`t last long too cos I miss playing a Strat. I then decided to give the Fender 60th Anni Strat a try n just bought it. But at home while playing tat Fender, I somehow felt something was amiss.

Sold that Fender n got a Squier Standard Strat again n since then, it has been my main guitar. I felt that the Squier had that extra mojo that the Fender didn`t have.

This tale is strange but true. I have since upgraded the parts on my Squier n its definitely a keeper :) I doubt I`m ever going back to a Fender.

its kinda like the fernandez copy of fender in the late 90's or something.. they got sued cos it was too close to a fender strat.. at first people just laugh at the brand then when they hear the sound they go.. whoa... then u just laugh

i like to do it the other way round...
"what is a pro doing with a entry guitar"
get a better one n blow ppl minds off

haha funny stories. there were some that looked at my guitar brand and said "wat brand sia?" cos is was a Santa'fe custom. they thought it might not sound as good, but when i plug it up, the sound is like WOAH.cos they dunno im using seymour pups..haha
