Any recommendations?

Hi, Im new to this forum and i'd like to ask if anyone has any recommendations on which:
1.Ride (preferably 20")
2.Splash
3.Crash

Should i look out for and possibly buy at the year end Swee Lee warehouse sale?

My spending power isnt that great.

I'd probably be armed with only $500 at most.

i tink most will agree with me when i say dat u just have 2 things to take in mind: your budget and the sound you're looking for. these 2 things are relatively dependent on each other. right now, you have only stated your budget. so the softies here can only advise you based on that, maybe point u (as marc has done) to ranges of affordable cymbals where u can take your pick of the sounds they offer.

in previous threads, some softies have said that you should pick the cymbals out yrself since u can hear it for yourself and determine if u like the sound or the sound suits the type of music u play. e.g. what's trashy to one might be less so to another person.

would suggest that u trawl the ads here and in luthermusic for 2ndhand cymbals...can get deals even cheaper than swee lee sales if you're lucky.

Ok, I'll be a tad bit more specific.
I am a semi-beginner

I have a Tama Stagestar.
Paiste 14" regular hats.
Paiste 16" regular crash.
Sabian B8 16" crash.

Im not really sure what step to take next.
As in what to buy next.

And im looking to expand during the year-end sale if possible.

snowflier: Thanks. i'll keep my eyes peeled and shall stalk luthermusic classifieds =p

marcdadrummer:But Sweelee wont bring in istanbul agop and alchemy cymbals for the sale right? Because what i saw during the last sale (june) were mainly sabians and paistes (i was a bit late though)

Ok and maybe i'll not just think about getting stuff from the year-end sales..

The best way to choose cymbals is with your own ears. If you're interested in Istanbul cymbals, you can go try them at Drum Resources. Nigel always welcomes customers to try his products. Another alternative for made-in-Turkey cymbals is Turkish cymbals. You can try them out at Music Lab.

As for Zildjian and Sabian, you will have to check them out at Yamaha and Swee Lee. For Paiste, you can check them out at Ranking.

It really depends on what kind of music do you play. Then you can see what cymbals suits your playing. For Sabian, you can perhaps start by checking out the AA series and above at the Sabian's soundcheck website:
www.sabian.com/english/Webmayhem/soundcheck.cfm

But it would definitely be better if you can try them out personally. What you hear in person might be slightly different from what you hear from the soundcheck recordings. One way you can do so is to join us at our monthly Drum Exchanges. Some of us will bring various cymbals for all to try out. That's how we share there :)

Personally, I'm currently drooling over the Sabian HHX stage/xplosion and Vault series. Still deciding.

Hope this helps you a little. Getting good cymbals is a long term investment. Have fun searching for the right cymbals and good luck! :D

istanbul AGOP and alchemy cymbals are carried by www.ezimusic.com

istanbul MEHMET are carried by nigel from DRMP..

Swee lee stocks SABIANS and some paistes..

main carrier for paistes are ranking.. they also have trojan and meinl...

Istanbul Agop and Istanbul Mehmet are two different cymbal makers...

google about them to learn more.. :D

hear with your ears... thats the best advice any drummer would give.. unless u have a preference to what u want....

I mainly go for sabians but with ur budget can't work much out... most probably ISTANBUL AGOP/ALCHEMY or TURKISH CYMBALS are within your range... unless u save up more so u have a bigger choice to choose from...

sabians are great during sales but a hi-hat(around 250+), crash (200+) and ride (250+)... overbudget

Woohoo!
Awesome feedback. :-D

Marc : I think getting a ride and probably hats are a higher piority than crashes since i have two..

Hmm a lot to consider..

I still havent found my genre or type of music which i appreciate most..
Damn..
