Saw Pink Floyd performed in Live 8 and was very impressed. Can someone recommend some of their albums? Thanks :D

If you saw Floyd at Live 8 then you'll have seen Dave Gilmour as 'frontman' - if you liked that, then you will like 'The Division Bell', and the 'Pulse' live album.

IMO though, the definitive Floyd albums are the ones before they split with Roger Waters (lyrics genius - Gilmour, Wright and Mason won the name from him in a protracted legal battle by sheer weight of numbers).

I recommend:

Animals (my favourite with opening and closing simple acoustic songs which I adore)
Wish You Were Here (haunting title song)
Dark Side of the Moon (classic heavy breathing woman singing track)

Hi there...yes try Pink Floyd's Dark Side of the Moon...a continuous piece of music...and one of the best most successful albums remaining in the chart fora whopping 23 years or so =) (the songs played at LIVE 8 from this album is MONEY =)

U could also the THE WALL..a brilliant piece of work...(songs played from LIVE 8 are COMFORTABLY NUMB *the last song played and one of their best*)

Another album is WISH YOU WERE HERE ...

All brilliant albums i must say...i still remember recording my own Pink floyd compilation and making them into a continuous piece of music just like their albums..

One of their fav songs for me..a song called THE FINAL CUT...a most sad but beautiful piece..try it 8)

So who was their original frontman? By the way thanks for the recommendations! :D

Roger Waters and Syd Barrett (but he popped out for some cigarettes one day during rehearsal and didn't return for 18 years). Dave Gilmour joined later on.

Recommended songs - Another Brick in the wall (one of their most famous taken from THE WALL), Comfortably Numb, Wish You Were Here, Learning To Fly, Coming Back to Life, Mother, The Final Cut, High Hopes, Hey You, The Thin Ice, Gig in the sky and the whole side of DARK SIDE OF THE MOON and THE WALL...

and ya THE FINAL CUT always bring a tear to my eye whenever i hear it

Another band i recommend is ALAN PARSONS PROJECT....started by Alan Parsons who produced Pink Floyd's Dark Side of the Moon...

He engineered it - the band produced it. :)

Got this from ultimate-guitar.com, Pink Floyd's albim sales increased by 1,343% after playing Live 8!

The Live 8 Effect

HMV has revealed that fans rushed to the shops yesterday (July 3rd) to purchase albums of the likes of Pink Floyd, who have seen album sales increase of 1,343%. The Live 8 effect is expected to continue as the week goes on, with HMV’s Gennaro Castaldo explaining: "This snapshot still shows that, like its predecessor 20 years ago, the Live 8 concert is having a marked effect on sales of featured artist recordings. It's likely this impact will become more pronounced throughout the week."

And they are going to donate all the resulting profits to charity. Cool dudes!

Pink Floyd's Profits Plea

Live 8 stars Pink Floyd have urged all bands who played the super-gig to donate their profits to charity.

The veteran rockers have seen their album sales rocket by an astonishing 1,300% since Saturday - but they don't want a penny of it.

Guitarist Dave Gilmour said he does not want to profit from the show - and any extra cash should be given away.

"Though the main objective has been to raise consciousness and put pressure on the G8 leaders, I will not profit from the concert," he said in a statement.

"If on Thursday the G8 leaders tick the right three boxes at Gleneagles then the main objective will have been fulfilled.

"If other artists feel like donating their extra royalties to charity, perhaps then the record companies could be persuaded to make a similar gesture and that would be a bonus.

"This is money that should be used to save lives."

The legendary band reformed especially for the gig after more than 20 years of hostility.

Sales of Echoes: The Best Of Pink Floyd are up 1,343% at HMV.

Gilmour is no stranger to charity. In 2003 he sold his London home for £3m and gave all the money to a project for the homeless.

Every act who played at Hyde Park on Saturday received a sales boost - except for the shambolic Pete Doherty.

The Live 8 coverage, which also included performances by Madonna, U2 and Robbie Williams, was watched by a peak of 9.6 million viewers on BBC1.

You forgot to mention 'Breathe'... killer track.

Anyway, while it's good to see them play live again, I think their best performance was for the film 'Live At Pompeii'. Check out their live rendition of 'Echoes' from Meddle which is split into 2 parts for the film. Ppl who have watched it will tell you it's a life-changing experience. Everytime I watch 'Echoes' part 1, the hair at the back of my neck will stand... It's that amazing.

i highly recommend Dark Side of The Moon or the Wall for starters to begin with ... just entered the world of Pink after reading a book that tells all about the history of progressive rock... Dark Side was recorded at Abbey Road... it is one of the 'first' albums in music to maximise the use of stereo ... u will understand why after listening to it... so many bands till today referenced PF in their music... The Wall was made into a movie in the 80s starring Bob Geldof as Pink...

Oh, btw, when I first bought Dark Side of the Moon 1 year ago(my first floyd album) I didn't know what to think of it, it was just downright bizarre(at that time), then slowly the tunes started growing on me and now its one of my favourite albums.

So don't be disappointed if you find that you can't appreciate their music at first. :)

Wish you were here album has one track that has a very irritating whiny sound but the rest of it is good. :)
