This is not a flame thread. By no means I am trying to encourage any members of soft to leave this site or anything like that. I fully respect the site owner's decision to adopt a pay for ad classified system.

however I believe some of us still prefers forum style auction and doesn't have paypal.

Other than guitar4christ.com, any other recommendations?

Hardware zone.

Literally the place for junk and neglect of administration.

I had a friend selling used wheelbarrows there claiming its his hobby.

Of course, there are a few other sites that offer free classifieds service.
But, you'll soon find that they do not have the right crowd, either they are small, or, they are not music-focused.
At SOFT classifieds, everyone read ads for free, but to be effective in selling your stuff, it's the right place to post your ads.

Becoming a supporting member isn't that costly. $12 for 6months, $20 for 12months, i think it is pretty reasonable.
There is another method of payment, pm James for more info.

SOFT had came a long way, and with James' dedication and passion, it will continue to go far.
It's high time we show our support to James.

:)

i'm not sure if that will be for long.

at present, the soft.com classifieds page is on another page from the main forum index, and on the main forum index, the old classified page remains where "time" essentially "stops" on 27th May.

could be misleading for people that are not frequent users of this forum, or for people that are unable to spot the link to the new classifieds page on the main index.

anyway, putting aside the supporting member idea and to answer your question, no i don't think there are/were any alternatives to buying and selling music equipment other than the old soft.com buy/sell section. so become a supporting member! i'm going to become one soon myself.

Thanks for the construcive replies guys, except for one who only know how to put down others and male himself look stupid.

Anyways, in regards to this member thing, site adminstrstor did not give or release any official statement regarding this matter. I do not know clearly what am I paying for. What benefit do I have over normal members, and why is this needed.

Other sites who had problem coping with higher volume had asked for donations before, I don't remember soft doing it and explain the current situation to end users.

The ads system is a freshly rolled out system. We barely have an idea of how it works and they went live almost immediately. How do we know it will be bug free and won't crash?

So non members get to post how many ads?

To be honest if I wasn't surfing around and saw ladyintear's post, I won't realize this thing was going to happen

Non members get to post 4 ads. I doubt if anyone srsly needs more than 4. Why not pay to contribute to the site if you have so many items to sell instead of spouting empty words?

PS: Usually trying to promote other forums on a particular forum is taboo and can get you banned. Il like to see you try this on UG or whatever forums.

^Oh I never knew that ... I was wondering how come I no need pay for my ad... I think this system is fine ... the normal person sells 1 item in like 3 - 6 mths each time ...

i've been overseas for a few weeks and was not aware of the new pay ad system. not only do i respect this decision, i also support it.

soft classifieds used to be one of the very few 'respectable' free classifieds channels. I have been using forums such as talkbass and theguitarpage, both of which use a 'supporting' membership system which is not free. the service is unparalleled and well worth the money. the international market there is huge.

it would not be fair to charge the same kind of rates for soft since the market is alot smaller. however, the system has been streamlined and much improved.

one of the things that was making soft classifieds crap was the kind of riffraff that used them. with this and other negative factors considered, i was starting to move exclusively towards the paid, 'real' forums to sell stuff, with all due respect. i actually *wanted* the soft classifieds to be paid, because i will always be better off selling locally.

if you could appreciate the superiority of other forums, as a result of a paid system, you would realise that the fees are a small price to pay for the potential benefits. i also think that soft deserves it.

the new paid system weeds out some of the cheapos... and if i'm the admin, i'll ban the threadstarter for advertising other forums...

I fully support the idea of paying to sell on the forum. Totally reasonable. When it's free, everyone takes it for granted and abuses the system till like nuts and re-posting at their whim and fancy, oblivious to the bandwith the extra ads taking up.

The items we sell, to fork out 10-20 dollars for an entire year for a right to sell on SOFT. WHY NOT?
Btw, I dun know why how come I'm not paying for the ads I'm posting? Or is it being deducted without my knowledge?
