Stone Temple Pilots, Creed and Soundgarden ruled the genre in the 90s.
A new crop of fresh bands awaits.

Alter Bridge soaring high gaining popularity among rock listeners all over the world. They deserved it... Comparisons between them and Creed, hands down to Alter Bridge.

But one notable band that is still standing strong is Staind.
The band the gave us hits like, "It's Been Awhile", "Outside", "So Far Away" and "Zoe Jane".
They are back with a brand new 6th studio album, "The Illusion of Progression".
Releasing an amazing premier song from the album entitled, "Believe".

Check it out if you haven't.

Hinder, Nickleback and Daughtry are already overnight success... But out there, there's still some better rock bands worth listening.

Any fans of Alternative rock? Somewhere along the line of post-grunge, not emo.

Oh yes, alternative rock! Have always been a small fan of alternative rock since I first listened to Crossfade.

Bands like Crossfade, Seether, Alter Bridge, Creed, Staind, Hinder, One Less Reason, A Perfect Circle, Revelation Theory, Sevendust had been great!

Oh, I'd loved Alter Bridge before they gained real popularity. I mean, I was already listening to One Day Remains since almost 3.5 years ago. I hope they will continue to create good works instead of focusing on their new found fame.

Likewise. Alter Bridge definitely became much more popular when they released their 2nd album, Blackbird. I mean, popular for a good reason. It's one of the best guitars album of 2007!

Anyway, if you guys haven't heard of Operator, check it out.

There's a tempting need to mention Shinedown.

Thank goodness for this thread..... finally someone who recognises what is good music.

Anyway, those bands were awesome man.... One thing they had in common was to simply write good songs. Write good songs. Soundgarden were an amazing band, totally original in their sound and direction. I read somewhere before someone commenting them about being the perfect cross between led zeppelin and black sabbath. Now, that's a lesson for toddlers to start making notes on their notebooks man... lols...

Yay, I love this thread! Post-Grunge Alternative. Woohoo!

Apart from the ones already mentioned above, I also like Breaking Benjamin, Fuel, Tonic, 3 Doors Down, Bush, Garbage, Placebo, Collective Soul, Foo Fighters, Incubus and Lifehouse.

WOO! alternative rock.

yeah lifehouse! incubus! alter bridge! i have some songs of most of the bands mentioned before me.

yeah im so gonna love this thread.

InfernoxDeath: Shinedown is good. never regretted when my friend made me listen to them.

my favourite Alter Bridge song is Down to My Last.
i used to listen to Creed when i was in primary sch/secondary sch. One Last Breath is my all time favourite Creed song. :)
i like The Killers too. Esp. Read My Mind and Mr Brightside.
damn i have lots of alternative rock band i love listening to !

Yeah alternative rock and post-grunge! Big fan here, though I enjoy a lot of different musical genres.

I like Staind very much, but their lyrics tend to dig up bad memories that I'm still trying to forget. But they're definitely a great band, just not healthy for me. And Alter Bridge... Totally awesome band, not that Creed wasn't but I actually like Alter Bridge more. Shinedown is pretty good too.

Jane's Addiction, Helmet, Collective Soul, Sevendust, Soul Asylum anyone?

alternative rock is a pretty huge genre. it's basically all rock that is not classified under "pop rock" "mainstream rock" or "top40" i guess

the smashing pumpkins? Zeitgeist is terrible. their best album is Siamese Dream. Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness is abit draggy to me.

silverchair? filter? third eye blind? and screaming trees!!

^^zeitgest was not bad, not their best work by far, but it's a good album for any rock band

what the hell does alternative means anyway? i've seen it used to describe virtually anything that doesn't sound happy and last I checked all these "alternative" bands get pretty solid airtime on the mainstream radio

goddamn the press

Eh, that's so not true. I'd never heard Crossfade, Thoery Of A Deadman, Three Days Grace, Sevendust, Staind, One Less Reason, etc on the radio.

Although Creed does get a lot of radio time, you have to realize that they were a very big band.

where is Oasis! . where are Blur, silversun, the verve, hurricane#1, kular shaker, super grass!???

the british contributed alot to the alternative world

I love Bush!

I also love The Verve, Radiohead, Blur and Kula Shaker. They didn't strike me as being alternative, because I was thinking Britpop or Britrock. *lol* Maybe they're all linked after all.
