Another Pickup Recommendation thread??

yes guilty as charged. read through all the previous threads and nothing really answers my question i guess. sigh. so sorry folks...but seriously hope i can get some answers here..

okie so i've got the good ol' MIJ strat, which i admittedly wanted to sell but thinking twice now. heh.

its a '57 reissue, with basswood body, one piece tinted maple neck, american vintage pickups. too low output for me, i am a high gain metal victim so yeah...(but it does possess some classic cleans tho..)

okie so i got some recommendations apparently from SD website..

Neck - SD L'il '59
Mid - SD Duckbucker
Bridge - SD JB Jr

am looking to replace all 3. if you could, do list out ur preferred 3 replacements and i'll be more than happy to look into it.
tonally, i am a metal head. haha. i would still love glassy strat cleans on the neck if possible. but doesn't have to be la.. so, eagerly awaiting ur replies...hehe

thks folks!

it seems that you are going the humbucking way- any chance of convincing you to have hot singlecoils in there instead? i'm thinking of Fender's Hot Noiseless...

keep the single coil tone man!! its the only thing your strat is worth!!

bridge = vv solo
mid = vv 54b
neck = vv heavy blues

thats what im using now... and its pretty high output... and quiet too!
try it man...

hot noiseless? tell me more. *embarrassed*...haven't heard of it lei...

Chanmin yo muh man, nice meeting u that day mate. sorry couldn't stay and talk a little that day, was in a rush to get home.
okie, you have suggested VV's...i am taking it to mean Virtual Vintage - Dimarzio Pups? will check it out. haven't touched dimarzio research yet...too many...

and guys - can u recommend me someone who can fix it all up for me, not at astronomic prcices preferably...

and also, i understand alnico magnets go better with basswood bodies? that right? and ceramics with alder? or is it just a myth?

Forgot to add,
I was thinking the following for higher gain stuff but still able to get decent cleans out of.

Dimarzio Cruiser(n)

Seymour Duncan Duckbucker(m) /Lace Sensor Gold(m)

Seymour Duncan JB(b) / Hotrails(b)

not true. a basswood body pledges no allegience to any pickup magnet. but, it's the most transparent wood to let your pickups sing through. Satriani/ Vai/ Gilbert especially requested basswood for their respective guitars (selected models) so that they can hear their fav pickups in there.

the Hot Noiseless pickups are actually stacked humbuckers, but they retain the single coil characteristics through & through. i heard them in use before (the guitar was a mex re-issue 50s strat) & they're very impressive. i'm considering them myself... i would've recommended something else to you but your guitar in question is a strat & i urge you to have single coils in there 8)

ok guys...thks for all the tips and recommendations. really appreciate it.
but at the present moment, i am seriously tempted by the Hot Noiseless. heh. firstly, its a stacked hum. secondly, its a fender pup. thirdly, it looks cool......hehehehe...its got that aged white cover which i want for my strat too. PLUS, it retains the single coil character. simply sweet. thks subversion!

NOW....the big questions;

1) How much ah?
2) Who can i trust to fix it up for me? cos i wanna change my pickguard too and i need to drill extra holes for it cos my strat pickguard only 8 holes..looking at a cream coloured 11-hole 3 ply pickguard...thks!

also apparently it needs 500k pots ? is that gonna cost me a lot? hmm..and would you know how much it would cost to fix it up? thks man!

you can send your guitar to swee lee/ Davis for a pickup fix-up, but i prefer Beez (Music Plaza) doing it. call these parties up to check how much they charge for the service. i'm sure other members here would recommend their personal services as well- mikemann is one such capable member 8)

the last time i checked, the full set of Hot Noiseless would be about $350+/- it's currently out of stock @ Swee Lee. Davis brings in Fender spares as well, i got the delicious Fender 57/ 62 pickup from them, have it in my 50th Anniversary Strat here:

they do have other accessories too (fender bridge assembly/ pickguards/ tuners/ strap buttons/ etc) but they're not in constant supply. you can enquier special orders too, they offered me this service before.

thks for the tips. kinda expected it to be out of stock. sighz. guess will have to wait a bit. might ask Davis to bring it in then. thks mate!
US prices seem cheaper, but then, after tax and shipping...might be about the same. see some shops quoting only $130USD for the set...which is like $213 SGD...

fibredrive, let us know how it works out for you. I curious how it will sound like. I personally believe that an overwound single will sound too middley, not my cup, but you may like.

Happy PU hunting.

yeah, if i can even get the hot noiseless pickups man. seems like a pretty hot item, even US stores are sold out on it...argh..

i just talked to the people @ swee lee about the Hot Noiseless last weekend, hope they'll bring it in soon... i'm for the Vintage Noiseless in the mean time...

hey dude; juz wanna confirm with you, u mentioned its about sgd$350 last time for the pups? cos i can get it for sgd$240 (incl.shipping) from US stores. its going for USD$125 + $USD$20 for shipping. and including an 8 hole 3 ply pickguard, my total cost is still less than SGD$300. am i missing something here? does ur amount include fixing it up or something?
thanks man...cheers
the vintage noiseless is about USD$119 only btw...cheers shipping is normally abt $20 or less. if ya want can recommend u the site..

i better clarify: the last price quotation was list pricing. you'll get disct after that... 8) no i doesn't come with an installation agreement, that you'd have to scout for others to do...

if you can get better deals on-line, i urge you to go for it because, the local dealers here won't ship it in unless it gets massive interest...

rio grand PU, fralin, lollar makes strat replacement PU, bit pricey but worth the tone. i had rio grande humbucker on my guitar. killer...
