Analog Pedals + Digital MultiFX Setup?

Was wondering if anyone uses this kind of setup where you put your analog distortions/ overdrive in series with your digital Multi Fx amp models and stuff.

Also I hope to sort of get a list of pedals that might work well in this situation, I've got a SM-7 ibanez pedal and it does'nt sound that good as it sounds quite fuzzy on its own.

At times I wish I kinda had that extra gain and saturation apart from what my multi effects (Pod X3 Live) can offer.

So any softies out there uses this kind of setup or has any experiences do share here in this thread!

I used to.

Guitar > Beta Aivin HM-200 / Digitech Bad Monkey > Line 6 Floor Pod > amplifier

I use them separately now but I can't deny I got some good results through this set-up. In fact, it was a good set-up but inconvenient, especially since I usually don't have much time to set up my rig before performances.

Did you get alot of noise when you're using that setup? Is it good for acquiring nice fat lead tones?

I love the Pod's amp models, they sound really good when playing rhythm stuff, but its lacking abit when playing lead stuff.

Sometimes there are amps models then can do nice leads but doesn't handle rhythm playing too well.

My set-up was usually noise-free, but I wasn't using any of the amp models. It was on bypass mode, so only the effects were in use. That was the purest my tone ever got.

I did not try running a distortion pedal with any of the amp simulators though, I expect a lot of noise from that set-up (wait, I think I did try it. It was horrible.) Thing is, one is a digital device and the other is an analogue device, so I don't expect them to work well together.

the main issue aint analog and digital. In this context, its just single stompboxe and multi fx mismatched

if analog and adigital relationship can be so easily sumarized, then life would have been easier..

analog and digital thingy are subject by itself that people study, not just stompboxes and multifx.

Yeah I wanted to find out about mixing individual stompboxes and multi efx, the word "stompboxes" did not come to mind as i was writing the title of the thread.

One of the reasons why I actually posted this questions was because I've read from somewhere(think it was the jerryc forum) that JerryC , that guy who rearranged canon, used a Pod XT Live rectifier model together with a Barber Direct Drive for his tone. Kinda like his tone, dirty and awesome.

I used to mixed analogs with my pod x3 live but i've sold all but my tubezone now.

I find my pod x3 live's amp simulation's distortion quite satisfactory by itself though, so i haven't been mixing my tubezone with my x3 live much.

here's my brief set-up: analog + digital 8-)

I use a Nova System with my pedals. No problems whatsoever, it's a pretty normal thing to do, especially with the introduction of products like the M9/M13 etc.

The issue isn't about analog-digital, as Pathein has mentioned. Many individual pedals (especially delays), are digital as well.

Here's my board - The drives go before the Nova System (which is used for modulation, delay, reverb, pitch effects), which then goes into a Barb EQ (tone stack modelling) and a Boss RC-2 (looping).
