Analog delay

perhaps you like to set criteria for the definition of best, eg according to price, according to feature, according to "sought afterness" in market etc etc

Most of what we played here, in the forum context, we know too little of the actual analog delay out there. Most of the modern ones, are either "analog voiced" delay or with new line of BBD chip, its hard to make comparison with those oil can delay, tape echo or early delay effect from yester years.

Anyway, best is subjective, without setting criteria, what we can conclude, are just opinions according to what we knew/tried/owned and not absolute reflection of best.

2 of analog delay which i have are toneczar echoczar and moog 104sd(250 unit world wide) even though it can be considered imho, best according to features, design etc, but its hardly being mentioned here. So i supposed it aint best enough for some.

swee, you've got the 104sd...if the echoczar n 104sd arent good enough to be then i dont know what is la.

EHX DMM is one of the best to me, honestly i havent tried one but it just sounds great on video demos.

btw, sorry to sidetrack.. is there any other diff between the 104z and the sd apart from the longer delay time?

hehe, the more i try, the less i know, the less i know, the more i cant define...

Only when i dont know much enough, then i can define whats best, due to the limitation of what i knew. When i know that there's always much more out there, i know best that theres is no best.

If i can tell you whats best, i think its best for you, not to trust me, coz, my best choice, is due to the limited knowledge i have and not knowing/not seeing the point behind why you wanna know about the best analog delay out there.

because I only know MXR and EHX and ibanez. I never thought of moog and toneczar until you told me.

If you wanna check out more, try checking out oil can delay(tel ray, which became morley that give us the vai wah )) and the tape echo(watkin copicat, roland etc), . Those has more interesting thing to read then modern day delay pedals, especially for oil can delay.

red witch titan? anyone use that?

That's a hybrid. It isn't fully analog. It's crazy expensive though. 400usd for a triple delay.

Excellent question. To answer - the clean signal path remains 100% analog. The wet path passes through an analog compander into an old digital delay engine and then back into the analog compander before hitting the R/C network which rolls off the top end - exactly like those used in analog delays. The choice for the digital engine was space - there is no way in the universe that you could fit 3 800m/sec analog delay units into one of our sized boxes. I have done blindfold tests with this unit and several analog delays - folks cannot differentiate

any one has that red witch titan? if it passes the analog test for my ears i'll probably get it. I don't find any shop in singapore that has that

well that's digital also, thing is this, titan has 3 delays in 1 , really plus point for me. So if it sounds ok then well get it then lol

IMO the Superdelay is better because has many more modes and features such as tape delay, tap tempo, low pass filter for darker analog delay tones and lastly, 8 presets and 3 footswitches.. Many more features. Not to mention it sounds fantastic. Absolutely love the Vintage Modified Superdelay's tape delay emulation.

Anyway don't let the whole "must be analog" bother you. Many fantastic sounding delays are digital. Skreddy Echo is a classic example.

Likui: were u the guy at TYMC asking about the red witch titan ytd?

i use the DD-20 and i think if u are not using it for any oscillation or washed out sound it'll fit what u need and its quite affordable. It has dual delays also..

If u want a simple 3 knob delay u can try the ibanez AD-9 or the deep blue delay..the DBD isnt analog tho.
