Amps of the World!!!!

Mesa Boogie Dual Rectifier 2 channel

Features:
For the first two days that you own the amp you'll think to yourself "what the ****! what an average sounding amp!!" It takes a lot of fiddling around to get that classic Recto sound. I don't think I'll go into the knobs as it's already been explained. If in doubt, please read "noobs" post. The spongy/bold and rectifier switches switch turns your amp from a low headroom tube monster that bares its fangs as they drip with saturated vacuum tube distortion into a gain addict. Awesome vintage "Plexi" sounds to thundering modern gain sounds. Cleans are your typical Recto clean sounds without reverb.

Sound Quality:
It sounds great with all the guitars I've played through it, each one has its own unique quirks to it, you'll just have to play around with it. Although at very high gain, the differences in tone aren't very clear. I personally love the Vintage channel as it's like a Mesa combined with a Marshall Plexi. Turn the gain up higher and the articulation still stays brilliant.

The Orange channel (In between Vintage and Modern channels) sounds heavier with more "chug" and still maintains that warm full tone with abit more "chug". Then comes the Modern channel!! I needed some time to get it working as I was still pretty hooked on the other 2 channels. Once I got my sound, I couldn't stop playing it. Warm warm warm, chugga chugga are the words to describe it. People who've complained about this amp just haven't spent enough time playing around with it. Only complain is that I'd wish my old Orange RC50's cleans were on this amp.

Overall:
This is my holy grail for now. Love the design and built. It's Mesa engineering at it's best. Over hyped, maybe. But you can't deny the fact that it's a great amp for rock and it's affordable. The only 2 amps I'd retire this for are the H&K Triamp or Bogner Uberschall.

Here's a sound clip of the vintage channel.

Will do a sound demo on the Modern channel if I have the time.... Cheers!

Marshall TSL-100 Review

Marshall TSL-100 Head

Features:
well seriously, what doesnt this amp have. three channels. 3 EQ's. EFX Loop. Reverb(great by the way). presence knob, ..... man anything that an amp should have. each channel has individual volume and gain. oh and a button to drop output to 25watts.

Sound Quality.
Clean Channel:
mindblowing. its scarily nice. full sounding and creamy!. never expected such nice cleans from a Marshall(imo). was never a huge fan except for the Marshall Artiste series. but this amp was exceptional!.from blues to jazz. hmmm i think its kinda a nice slightly modern tone with a vintage flavour. this channel has a mid boost. nice nice nice. with a little of the amp reverb and its heaven.

Crunch Channel:
well, its a marshall. always been known as THE crunch amp from AC/DC to waaay to many bands. has a variety of tonal ability. i used this amp in the current writing for the track my bands recording now and its really open sounding from slight breakup to rhythm Oasis like chords. when i bought this amp, it was because i was a huge fan of Mike Einziger and i had to try a marshall. tried a few including the raging JVM, but... the TSL stuck strongest to me. i could get a 90% anna molly tone out of it. the slight nice bite that only a marshall can give.

Lead Channel:
metal? no problem. it does the Bro0otalz great!. riffing thats bitey and clear. good low end to it but, not as good as a hughes & kettner or the Orange. can come off a little nasal, but to many Marshall fans that ive spoken to, say thats why they love the Marshall soooo....moving on, with single coils , i get that raspy (slightly nasal) tone. with humbucks, its METAL. sounds ok for the solo tone, not something id be raving bout, but maybe cause i cant really play lead soo.,. efx loop is really good. i know ive said it but... this channel really takes the heavy on. lamb of god? no problem!. ha

Overall:
great amp for its price. would prob do better with a new set of better tubes. foot switch is oversized but very functional with the efx loop and reverb along with the 3 other channels. id say ace for this amp. a tad nasal for my taste and prob not my voicing preference. i like the clean channel most of all id say. takes pedals great and have you heard a Fulltone OCD through the clean channel?? those who have this amp, check that out. its insane!.

Oooooohhhhh sweet marshalls.......love them but too bad have something else sinister in mind already..........haiz when will the wait be over..........it is killing me softly.......goose save me.......haha lol. And nice reviews u have here pedalitis bro, ur efforts r definitely appreciated by many including me, and how i wish i could play through all these amps that u had tried........envy envy keke.

no need envy bro. anytime anything interesting comes by, youre more than welcome to come give it a whirl my friend. appreciate your kind words to. and i have sinister things in mind to that goose could save me with ha ha...

Okay here goes nothing.

Recently I mentioned that I have to re-tube my amp. It's really beginning to sound really thinny and it's pretty disappointing. I wouldn't want to wait any longer or the fuses might get blown. I am thinking of changing both the preamp and power tubes. Currently it is fitted with stock TAD tubes ever since I bought it from Kank_39(great guy to deal with by the way). The amp uses 4 ECC83s for the preamp section and 2 EL34sfor the output section. I am thinking of swapping to JJ tubes, or anything better for that matter.

I know this sounds overly familiar, and I'm sorry I couldn't find anything that would help me in the forum. What tubes would you guys recommend, other than JJ's(if these are available locally)? Those tubes seem really reliable but I've read about them failing too in a matter of minutes. I tried looking for the tube shop in Burlington Square but to no avail. Also, I've no confidence in re-biasing the amp myself, I wouldn't want anything to get burnt. Would you guys recommend anyone reliable that can do it for me?

And lastly, I would just need to know how much it would roughly cost me to do a full retube including service charges. Kinda need to save up for it hehehe...

I'm sorry if alot of questions are being asked and if I sound rather ignorant. Tube amp owners please help me out!

Inputs appreciated!

Hey you can try out Larry Hi Fi at People's Park Centre. They carry Groove Tubes, which many artists and boutiqe amp makers use.
Based on the number of tubes you have, be prepared to fork out $200 for good quality tubes.

Hope that helps.
