Amp trouble

Hi all

I am hoping someone can help me diagnose my problem to avoid having to take my amp to the repair shop.

I have a tube (valve) amp. Sometimes when I play the sound fizzes out and the volume drops dramatically, or even momentarily cuts off, and then comes back fine or at reduced levels. This doesn't happpen all the time - sometimes only.

The amp is about 5 years old and I am concerned because I would hate to have it fail during a gig. The tubes have never been replaced.
Could this be a problem with the tubes? Any other ideas, thoughts suggestions?

Thanks in advance for your input.

1st thing to do is to replace all the tubes (or 1 by 1) and see if the problem goes away. 5 year old tubes under heavy usage need to be replaced anyway so just get a whole new set of tubes first..

Thanks. Can anyone suggest somewhere here to bet tubes, or is it best to order from the amp manufacturer in the US?
