Amp to use with POD XT live.

hmmm...been surfing for an amp to use with my POD XT Live. i've seen the tech 21 Power Engine 60. i understand that all i need is a poweramp with an extension cab. that right? so my other option was a crate power block with any cab...but then again, i don't know much about these things. can i just get a normal combo amp and use? or is it more advisable to go with a power amp and cab combi? does it make a diff to the sound?

any advice or suggestion will be much appreciated. thanks folks!

cheers.

The latest models multi effects with amp modeling, also have a output type selection. Meaning, which kind of amp are you plugging it in to.

So the output is selectable to suit what kind of amp you are using it with. A combo, stack or PA (full range).

In my opinion, at large is still hit or miss question. The best is to get an amp specifically meant for the modeller, so the voicing should be the most accurate according to the maker.

This is still in the trial and error territory. The thing is how deep you want to dwell into the modelling. Nothing will beat the Real Macoy, on the sound, feel and controls. So if you are really looking for a Jazz Chorus, Twin Reverb or a JTM45...etc Best get the real thing, or boutique clones.

End of the day, when you want 100%, you need 100% real thing.

hey mike, i hear ya...

which reminded me, the roland blues cube amp shoulda been on my list of amps...heh. you don't happen to still have that do ya?

guess i really wanna keep my pod xt live for recording purposes. but getting kinda tired playing it thru com speakers/headphones. nothin beats havin a real amp..heh. but then budget is kinda tight...so yep. looking for a cheaper laternative than a real tube amp..

hi,

yup u can use a combo amp...
u just need to bypass the amp preamp..by connecting to "effect return" of the amp..

i`ve tried in on a Laney tube amp on the effects loop(a vc or lc) its kinda nice..

connecting the amp directly is ok too...i`ll set the bass n treble to 0 and mid to the max..this way im using the amp to power the podxt but neutralise the preamp section...

if u can allocate more funds u can go for the poweramp/ cabs or head/cabs combo...
so many options ...just be creative...:)

okie dokes. thanks. will look into it. might just get a good solid state amp in the end and leave the pod xt live for pure recording purposes...or...hmm...

Sorrie dude, the roland blues cube 60 was a one off thing. I even had a number of pieces then, selling for 1-2months. Should have got it then, it's the last of the "New Old Stock" of these amps. Seriously good tone on those for a solid state. The look is super nice too, cream tolex and retro knobs.

Good luck on your search.

Get the Tech21 power engine... it doesn't colour your tone and thats what you want right? Cheap but powerful.

yep thash what i wanted....but sinamex does not bring in the tech21 anymore, so i guess its the 2nd hand market for now...cheers

Personally if you are on a budget, I find that with the POD XT, you don't really need a high end amp. Make sure the amp has a nice clean tone. Coz the modelling in the XT will be able to produce the tone for you.

thanks folks for the suggestions! might end up buying a tube amp instead la. was thinking to save up a little more and get meself a nice mode four or something sometime next yr. or maybe a peavey tube amp. will see how it goes. for now, will just tahan playign thru headphones/com spkrs for a bit more...heh. am thinking the pod xt live will be solely for recording purposes. wanna start getting stuff for pedalboard. hehe. G-A-S!!!

Just a suggestion, i heard line 76 things go well with other line 6 things (e.g. my friends variax and spider 212) so maybe us hould try getting a spider amp?
