Where to go for amp repairs? I need him to diagnose the problem and then fix it...I saw mikemann's website...maybe i should go there?
Anyway here is the problem: My amp is a hybrid Laney TFX2. The valve is in the drive preamp. but then the two drive channels are quite noisy even without plugging in the guitar. I thought maybe its the valve and so simple just go buy another and fix it in. But then the whole preamp section including the valve is shut inside the metal casing, so i emailed Laney and they said send to a tech don't do it yourself. so im asking now....

ANYWHERE GOOD TO SEND MY AMP FOR DIAGNOSTICS+REPAIR? THANK YOU

Sounds like a newer model laney. How long have you bought it??

Did the problem occur recently or all the while like that??

Some amp tend to have hiss sound even if no input plugged in. Have you ruled that out??

Yeah I think most prob its just cos of the gain i tend to pump the gain quite high...but its freaking irritating.....maybe I dont need a change of tube. ah i think i'll live with it. its 1 month old.

quite a few problems after i got it straight out of the box delivered to my house from sweelee aljunied. firstly i noticed the noise and sent it back for a check at the service centre. He said its normal...so okay la i brought it home but i really didnt like the noise....then one day later i couldnt even turn the amp on. sent it back and found out it was a loose solder.

2 months ago i just busted a laney lc15r. Decided to go laney again cos I like their products. hmm..

What you can do is to go and try their showroom display set. To confirm if its only your set. Must do that without other people testing nearby or the noise would drown out the hiss.

If the display set also have the hiss, then it's just in the design. Some amps are just built that way.

If not, you can try the service center again. Explain to them and see what they propose.

Is the new TFX made in china now? I see a marked reduction in price from past.

Note that head and cab are meant for performance use, so at home where it's quiet, what is not audible live seems loud at home. Could be that way. My knowledge is that some amp, at drive mode will have audible hiss, with all controls down.

1mth old, definately not a tube problem, less stock tube got defect, very unlikely.

hey.. i got the same amp as u too..when i was buying it..i demanded on testin the set i got from the store..it was faulty..fits your description..hissin noise..lousy drive quality..then i had no choice but to take the display set..WHICH ROCK!! haha sorry.. erm ya..now already more than 4 mths havent give me any prob yet..so its defineitly ur amps fault..u shld have checked b4 takin it..nvm dun drood over..tell them the prob..i think its the tube..good luck.. :)

Remember most modern tubes is no good.

Mmm yes. Warranty.

Lets just hope they give you a new one or at least recognise that it is faulty in the first place. Long time ago I brought a faulty pedal there the sales guy tried to convince me that it was working fine. That was more than 5 years ago though.

legally speaking, you're entitled to get a refund (exchange if you want) in the case of a defective product that's not caused by you, preferably when you have a receipt of the purchase. of course, that's not very nice to tell the sales guy... do this only on your last resort.

whether it's nice or not to the sales guy is kinda irrevelant. If you sold me a faulty product, you either replace it or refund me.

i meant the part on telling him legal mumbo jumbo. Most people have the idea that speaking legal = threatening to take action, sue etc. quote this -only- after he claims "Goods sold are not refundable" - which is not exactly correct, depending on circumstances.

If it's not a bother, I would like to know where or how you base your opinion.

There are a few shops in Peninsula that does amp repairs (tube amps included). Go take a look and let me know the outcome 8fingermadness. Gd luck dude 8)

Okay thanks guys! I tried every possible combination (without input/input without guitar/input with guitar/input with guitar and efx) with the gain at least 3 o clock and volume at only 3. then the amp goes ZZZZZZZZZZZZ. The last time I went SVC centre that guy said "its normal cos u got the gain blablabla....gain channel will have the noise blablabla....." and the whole time he played my amp....the gain never passed 10 o clock or so and the volume at abt 1....I should have insisted then that the noise was abit loud for normal...now must go back again.

whoa later they say goods sold not refundable then i threaten them to go to CASE then I really go and report them..then they scared already tell me ok la ok la i change the amp for you...then i tell them I WANT THE PEAVY JSX! WITH THE CAB!

yah usually if goods faulty within a month you should insist that they change a new set for you but of course same model lah.

Make sure you stand by your opinion and insist that its not working properly, don't let anyone intimidate you. If neccessary ask to talk to the manager or something, cos some of the people there really don't know their stuff one.

Try out the other amps of the same model there. If they all also same problem then bo pian, it's how the amp works. If got difference and they tell you "where got, same what" then post back here share your story.

Actually whatever happens just post back share with us

Good luck ya!
