Amp for use with POD XT Live?

Hey guys, I recently got a POD XT Live during the Citymusic sale, and am running it into my Roland Cube 30 amp. But right now, I feel that my amp isn't really being utilised much (I just use the clean channel with flat EQ and use the POD for everything else), so I was thinking of selling off my amp and getting a speaker/keyboard amp for my POD. I heard that the sound and tone from those will be better than from a conventional amp since it skips the preamp tone-shaping. Alternatively some people have suggested just buying a cab and running the POD into it. I live in a HDB flat so I don't really wanna get a loud setup, I was thinking of running it into my computer and playing through computer/monitor speakers, but would that ensure a good sound?

Try a PA system monitor, or those fallback monitors. I heard thats not a bad choice since the PODxt live can still give a killer sound even when plugged straight in.

The PODxt live has a switch at the back. Amp/line

When at amp, its relatively soft, for amp use (of course)

When at Line, signal is boosted up to line level. Suitable for recorders, mizers or PA. So i guess its usable monitors or cabs. Haven't tried though :P

just plug it into your computer and use your computer speakers, alternatively use the line-in on your hi-fi.

if you want to go the cab/power amp route get a clean sounding solid state power amp, a mosvalve 962 or something. you wouldnt want the power amp to color your oh-so-pristine POD tone.

the keyboard amp idea is fine. As usual, the laws of speaker size apply here.

Yea - a keyboard amp or active speakers/monitors work great with a mfx unit like the PODXTL/GT8. I'm running my GT-8 through a Roland KC60 and the difference in tone is incredible.

I was very sceptical of this idea too until I took my gt8 and tried it out on a number of keyboard amps. To get a better idea of what it sounds like through a keyboard amp - try listening through a pair of good earphones.

Sadly though, there's not much in terms of choice here when it comes to keyboard amps - the Sweelee sells the Roland and Laney. Luther sells Behringers but they were out of stock when I last checked.

A couple of reasons why a keyboard amp is recommended for a multifx pedal (with Amp/Cab sim):

a) Sounds better  (ofcourse..)

b) Like the 1st post had mentioned - when you typically plug in your guitar into the normal input of a guitar amp, the signal goes through the preamp of the mfx unit and then through the preamp of the guitar amp and then finally to the poweramp stage. The two preamps in series can significantly modify the original tone. A keyboard has no preamp circuit - just a power amp and equalizer.

c) FRFR: (Flat response Full range ). Keyboard amp speakers are not tweaked to enhance any particular frequency unlike guitar amps. i.e even if you use the effect send/return on your guitar amp and bypass the preamp, your tone is going to be coloured by the speaker.

d) No need to create multiple versions of the same patch for recording and jamming. It's very annoying when you have a great sounding patch through earphones that sounds horrendous through the amp - just try the 5150 Lead on the GT8..

SHUCKS. I FORGOT ABOUT THIS! hahaha! Thanks man. :)

I realised that going thru the Efx loop of a guitar amp ain't giving the same tone I'm hearing thru my PC speakers or PA.

Hi all,
If i were to get a keyboard amp, which brand will u recommend?
How much will a Roland KC 60 or Roland KC 150 cost?

since im an effects pedal kinda guy, and i dont really need a colouration from an amp, i did a search and found this lil guy

its basically a tiny but powerful(150w of pure volume) solid state amp that you can plug into a cab.

heya, just to share, i went down this route before, so my current setup is POD XT live straight into mixer and out to my monitors. i got a pair of yamaha hs50m monitors. it sounds sweet to me. if you can, i would suggest the expansion pack. get the metal expansion pack, with the diezel and engl amps, and the triple rec'fier. it rocks!
anyways, my other alternative was to get the crate powerblock and a 2 x 12 cab to plug it into. but a bit too pricey so abandoned the idea in the end.
cheers

o.0 nice man!!

Yeah it's nice, I saw it in Guitarplayer before.
Are keyboard amps generally cheaper?

well. i have been using my podxt .. for quite some time .. and have been using it with my solid state 10 watt ibanez amp .ha.

for me. . i feel that the amp is not as impt for us podxt digital stuff users.
not that . the amp doesnt affect the tone lar. . but it doesnt play a large role compared to our analog users.

welll .. for home . if i were u .. i would just keep the cube. when ure feeling lazy .u dun wanna plug in ur pod . use guitar-amp . its 1 heck of an amp too . :)

well. just my opinion lar .ha. it kinda depends on wat models u got on ur pod too . some amp models just sound BAD with guitar amps . some sound marvellous.

end of the day .. its personal preference lah. ha. so . well .

hope i helped . in a way or another :)

I'm ditching my pod xt live. Therefore my kb amp has to go as well. Man I'm fickle, just got the amp this jan. My pod xtlive in dec. going back to stomps. Its a laney ck30. Being about only a month old, its still in great condition.

Retails for at least 200+. willing to let go at $150. Anyone interested just pm me.

o btw actually keyboard amps are just as ex. The roland kb4 and up at least $1000+. The kc550 according to sweelee website also $1000+. The only affordable ones are from laney.

Sorry if OT abit, dont wanna create a similar thread again

These pedals thingy is really interesting, nvr had a chance to use pedal . . . Only got one compressor given by my pal :D. Now i had got my dream axe, and I thought its time for me to have proper meal, but i guess i need to skip my afternoon meal again (seriously time to go for diet, been enjoying past 1 month, gained 3kg of fats seriously). I got a budget of 1k ++ (next month, my pay) for a multieffect board and a proper amp. Currently im using a mg15cdr. Im thinking of a tonelab SE, how are they? And can tonelab SE act as a preamp like pod do? (i suppose pod can? since it can be plug straight away to a keyboard amp?). Are there better choice? Heard about GT-8. Where to try out them?( Im really shy, esp when pp keep looking at me when i try out)

Im considering between these 3 models
- Tonelab SE
- GT 8
- zoom G9.2tt (I hope i got the model correctly)
- ax3000gt (downloaded some clips from music123, sounds quite digital wor the samples?)
From what i see from reviews, it seems that tonelab SE have the best sound but the least effects? While from what is see from the pricing, zoom seems to be more affordable?
