hi guys, i'm still pretty new to the drumming scene here in Singapore. i called up ranking regarding ordering a MXR drumset, but the lady said she didn't take orders, which is quite sad. is there anyway i can get it other than through them? perhaps online? and can some please advise me on whether i should get online? and maybe provide some links? thanks!

MXR is PDP right?

according to others, they do take orders. Maybe you have to come down there to be able to convince them that it is a genuine order. Basically, I bought there a number of times, and I would say they have good service. You cant get much discount though.

come down to KL's JS Music. They have few pdps lying around in their store. They also got a pdp specifically for customer to try out. Its really really cool to have an actual drumset for customer to try.

ya, u can try it at JS, but i guess only one kit right? the blue one? The lady attendant will even encourage you...

I did try that, and to be honest, its more than what i expected... everything sounds great... but, I'm a newbie and basically tone deaf so I'm not sure if every will agree with that.

Anyway, u may come and try, but bringing in to sing may be a problem.. customs....

it almost cost me a problem when I bought his used pearl drum set from SG, i brought it in to MY.. custom officer was asking me for papers...

Luckily a more senior officer said its just ok since its used (actually beaten up) already...

where have such thing called cannot order. i think you have to go down to ranking personally order and put downpayment. should be.. right?

sorry but wad r some examples of these papers?and do u tink it will b a prob to brin a rack for KL to SG?

You only have to worry about GST if the total of all the stuff you bought comes up to more than S$400.

Otherwise, can be done.

@KAHUNA

The Papers are for customs declaration, especially when new. It will be best if you have a clear outline of what are the items that are taxable. I asked the customs of both sides before, they gave different answers.

For Malaysia, if an item is used and will come from Malaysia, they say, you must have a declaration before going out if you intend to bring it back. This paper will be the basis for you not to be taxed. While another officer comments that personal effects are not taxable.

For Singapore, they say that you just have to declare. To declare, you need a paper with details of the cost of your items...

Although, I strongly believe that officers are lenient, when it comes to small items, but drums seems to be so catchy to the eyes, especially when new. And, as bro Weckl mentioned, 400SGD and less only is non taxable

The thing is, I am neither a Singaporean nor a Malaysian, therefore, custom officials ask me a lot when I bring things that are visually noticeable. Of course they know im not local, even if I look like one, cause I cant speak local.. wahehe

yeah cause i called ranking. they said. NOPE. don't take orders. haha. maybe i just have to pay them a visit. hmm. maybe cos i'm a kid. haha oh well. but i want to know if there's any place i can actually try the kits before buying?

hmm i probably won't be going to malaysian cos i'm singaporean and it's kinda outta the way for a student. oh well. do most of you try out drums before buying them?

i bought my kit second hand and i just gave 'em the money and take the drums. i doubt u can try drumset here in m'sia or s'pore. if you are in US, YES.

In singapore... Only at Drum Resources Music Place. :D

If Luther has a display set, they're also quite okay with testing.

I was able to try mine at BYLEFT.

I hope there will be other shops that will be allow prospective buyers to try.

In Malaysia, I tried it at JS, as I have mentioned before, and at MASAI (Yamaha), Jusco Tebrau. They have a TAMA Superstar kit there.

OT:

Who among you owns that set, the one I bought at Byleft? Its a black pearl 90's Export. It even had a fairly, new pearl cymbals. Got it last year, between Jun - July I guess.

I was just curious who sold it. Overall it was a fair buy if you ask me.

Hi, can someone advise on where JS is? I know its in msia but if there are exact directions / landmarks that wld be great. Thanks!
