Alternative Rock

People get the misconception about what alternative rock really is... Bring back the days when we have bands like Creed, Staind, Nickelback, Seether, Default, Fuel, Trapt, 12 Stones bringing glory to what ALTERNATIVE ROCK is. It's not bands like MCR, FOB or any of today's bands played on the radio.
I'm glad bands like Alter Bridge and The Showdown are newer additions to continue to live on with the legacy of true alternative rock.
I miss those days when such bands ruled the radio stations...

woah, what happen, alternative means those bands?

Heh, pardon me, my idea of alternative was still in the early to mid 90s kinda alternative, back when sally yeh was hosting alternative nation on mtv

+10000^999

Alternative rock is supposed to be the nickelback, creed, alter-bridge type of music. FOB? my ass would fit the bill better

hush hush, lets be quiet bout nickleback or that couple of bands mentioned as alternative..

seriously, we must be quiet, if not, most people wud just walk away, laugh at us or force us to take rock music history lesson for alternative music..

uh, i like faith no more and nirvana, do they count?
grunge is technically a more chaotic version of altern rock right.
nowadays alternative rock is also used to describe pop punk bands who grew up and got boring and loss the upbeat of their music. eg. blink182, jimmy eat world

Yeah, grunge is kinda, note: kinda, like alternative rock.
These days, everything is fused together, but see why bands like fob, mcr and blah blah more mainstream bands are grouped as alternative? It's because people listen to them, and know that million other fanboys listen to them aswell, and they want to label themselves differently, and not media spew, thus, they group themselves in alternative. Note: Some pop bands are good though

Yeah, bands like Alter Bridge, trapt are really good, so is incubus. I would consider Audioslave or Soundgarden more under the alternative side.

id agree with alter bridge but the showdown?arent they more of christian metal?check their older stuff out.

It's like the young teaching the younger in here.

It's not difficult to read up a little isn't it. Here are the top entries in google:

Wikipedia: Alternative rock (also called alternative music, alt-rock or simply alternative; known primarily in the UK as indie) is a genre of rock music that emerged in the 1980s and became widely popular in the 1990s.

American popular music: Marketing category that emerged around 1990; it is most often used to describe bands like R.E.M., Sonic Youth, the Dead Kennedys, and Nirvana.

Next you'll be saying punk is blink 182 and rock n roll is AC/DC. (and asking who are the Sex Pistols and Chuck Berry)

Well, there are a couple more bands that deserve recognition in this area...
Theory of A Deadman... Any fans?

Here, here! Theory Of A Deadman! Although they really sound like Nickelback. Besides, they were signed on by Nickelback. -.- But. They really have nice music.

And I don't really think Creed, Alter Bridge belong to the alternative side...

If you wanna talk about alternative, I will suggest A Perfect Circle, Faith No More, Staind and Incubus.

Nickleback, Creed etc are more Stadium Rock than Alternative. They are totally mainstream bands.

Pixies, Dead Kennedys, The Breeders and of course the mighty Sonic Youth are more what I would describe as Alternative Rock.

Mind you these days everything is so mixed and merged together it is practically impossible to pin point a genre for anything!

Alternative rock was used for bands like Rage Against the Machine, Faith No More, basically rock that did not follow norms. Grunge, post-grunge (Nickelback, Alter Bridge, etc) are included.

If I'm not wrong, MCR is classified under emo-rock, not alt-rock.

Anybody still listening to Stone Temple Pilots? I think they're awesome though disbanded.

Toooo many genres of music nowadays. No use fighting over it. For all you know you can create a new brand of music. Why not just term it 70s rock, 80s rock, 90s rock and 00s rock?

If i said I play 80s rock, you'll probably know what kind of rock music i play right? haha.
