Alternate tunings

Say apart from standard and Drop D tuning, if I wanna tune to something like B F# B E G# C# (I want to play some Gazette songs)... Can my guitar handle it, or do I have to set it up differently? I'm not too familiar with alternate tunings so I just wanna make sure before I wonder why my strings are snapping in my face or hanging like a loose shoelace.. Current gauges I use are around .09 to .48...

Well dude.

As a general guide line, unless you're planning to play death/metalcore songs that requires you to tune WAY down, say drop C to maybe even drop A, your safe bet would be gauge .011 strings or .012. They won't make your strings flap around like loose shoe laces, like you've so adequately put it, when you tune down :)

But i guess if you want to play in stuff like drop B or lower, i guess you'll have to get your guitar fixed so that your neck won't curve or, if by some way you DO manage to fix them on, won't snap in your face and scar you while you strum away:cool:

That's basically it.

I agree with Stan Kumar. Get heavier gauges for dropped tunings so it won't be loose like rubber bands and won't hit against the frets when you strum hard.

Then I'll have to get another guitar...? Haha, well thanks a lot anyway. I've tried tuning down to drop C before using regular strings, it worked I think, but the strings were kinda floppy lol.

I'm a girl, by the way... Lol.

Heh, I like Gazette too. Playing Chizuru for now, and probably trying out other songs.

i'm also thinking of what will happen if i drop-D or tune down my floyd rose by one step. Don't dare to do it myself, maybe i'll get help when i get it back from repairs.

*btw, i'm learning Cassis, Last Bouquet, and Miseinen just for fun, cos still rookie, haha. Trying to learn the solo. After GazettE, Versailles will be next....

I think it's safe to drop D a Floyd Rose guitar. I did it to my friend's Ibanez. Loosen the locking nut then tune the Low E string to D then lock it up. You can whammy the hell out of the guitar in drop D. No problems for me, stays in tune the whole time.

For fixed bridge, just tune the lower E string to D and you'll have a Dropped D tuning. No locking of nuts needed.

Hopefully that answers your question. :)

Actually, if you tune one of your strings down (with a floydrose bridge) you'll actually detune the rest of the strings. The rest of the strings will get sharper because of the nature of the the floydrose. So, if you want to tune your guitar, you have to tune the rest of the strings aswell. Lock it, and then use your fine tuners.
