Alt RoRK

Hehe commendable try RoRk. :)

I thought the song had some nice riffs, but it was more like an amalgamation of riffs, rather than a full song that was trying to tell a flowing story. Doesn't have to be, of course. I'm just stating how I felt upon hearing the song. I tend to like songs that have a little more structure and direction.

The solo portion from 1:20 onwards saw a number of timing issues. Phrasing was quite interesting.

Not sure if you were looking for comments on tone of recording as well...but I felt that the lead tone was not too bad, quite clear and sat well in the mix. The guitars background had too much sizzle and gain for me. Some of the cool riffs would have sounded better with less gain. Can try lowering the treble just a tad, and the gain knob for ur distortion as well.

Also, funny that it's called Run Away - cos the starting verse riffs sound like the ending riffs from Sugar Ray's Runaway. :P

Thanks for sharing and keep on posting!

bro fgl, sure thing dude. it may need re-structuring to fit vocals but that shouldn't be an issue.

With vocals and a full band's backing, it should be ok, IMHO. There's actually another part in the song - during the solo that should please you; if you can hear it. ;-)

Thanks for the feedback on the mix. I have poor hearing and I'm never overly concerned with the mix cos' hopefully, someone better will take care of that. I'll however take note of the gain settings. It is kinda too gainy.

And I can't recall the Sugar Ray tune, haven't heard their stuff in a few years. Maybe I should call it Run Away Again? Anyway, it's something to take note of. I don't listen to music much so this kinda coincidences are bound to happen. Except that this is too close for comfort.

The solo has a country feel to it. Someone asked if a delay was used and the short answer is, no. The long answer is that I don't like to use delays for solos unless I can't get enough sustain. I feel that a delay lessens the bite required for solos. The solo was mostly fingerstyle picking, a la country style. It was a first take. I liked the energy and decided to keep it. Will take note of the timing issues.

FWIW, country licks have lots of beebop (early jazz) and blues feel. Not that strange if you know that country was around before beebop and blues.

Thanks for listening and yup, more stuff to follow.

Cheers
