Advice on getting a new guitar.

Hello all, I'm new around here and I need some advice on getting a new guitar, I hope you guys will be able to share your expertise with me.:D

I've been learning guitar for around a few months, around 8+ or so, and I want to get a better guitar (currently using a starter pack I bought from Davies), with a budget of around $1000, what guitars do you guys recommend that I get(or whether I should stick with my current set first)? I'll be playing mostly metal though occasionally I'd like to play some other genres (rock, blues etc.) I was thinking of a Fender Strat or Tele because I've heard that its very versatile but I don't know much so I would like to hear from you guys. :D Your advice would be greatly appreciated. :D

Another question, does the amp or the guitar affect the overall sound more?

Try an Ibanez with H/S/H pups config.

Look around in Buy/Sell. A 2nd hand low end RG should fall within your range.

With that budget, you can get one of the higher-end LTDs, and many of those come stock with either Seymour Duncan and EMG pickups. I find that LTDs are very well-made.

second hand MIJ ibanez rg or s series.
why compromise on indo made ltds when you can get MIJs with that budget.

we must not overlook the fact that a preferred guitar (not necessarily a high-end unit/ renowned brand name) would make your playing better. the LTD guitars are superb for the money. in addition to that, i'd say you check these out (i own the Smash):

Quality control is determined by the factory, not country of origin. I don't think you compromise on an LTD. So far, I haven't heard any bad things about them, and furthermore I've tried them and they're definitely high quality guitars.

Thanks to all who have contributed so far, I'll check out the suggestions you guys have made. :)

Either u buy a cheap guitar or if not a very expensive guitar. cos $1000 will get u a good guitar but not a good value esp fender.. now the fender actually not too good... if u want good fender.. pick on the original u.s made fender (esp the old ones )... which is really expensive.

I will go for a LTD if i were you. Normally i will look for one with at least 24 frets and a floyd rose bridge. Alternatively Edwards Les pauls might be your choice if you want a punchy thick rhythm.

2nd fender strat '90 with lace sensor PU
2nd Ibanez PGM this is the cheapest ibanez artist series but really amazing :)
