how to make your distortion sound stays for a long time and not fade away? like in Gary Moore's Parisiene Walkway. is it pickups related or any pedal to make it work?

actually I would say both...but I guess pick up is the more important one.

distortion sound? or do u mean the sustain of a note?

not necessarily done with high output pups. as long as the magnet string pull is not too great and not too weak, it should be fine...proper setup of pup heights. proper fitting of the neck into its guitar neck cavity, and construction of the guitar would play a part in this.

ishh same as what i wanna ask...
like linkin park, that guitarist nvr do much one.. he aways strike once and theres like a "delay" before another strike on the strings.

dtrulez38: From your equipment list, I don't see why you shouldn't get enough sustain. Try this: Take your LP, use your JnH, turn on both channels, max out gain on either one and play. If you have a sustain or compressor pedal, it might help too. If still not long enough, I would say your fretting technique needs a little work.

erm....but some songs that i listen to, the guitarist doesn't use that much gain, but still gets a long note....n technique wise i'm not sure, coz basically wat i'm trying to do is just hold a note n letting it to last....so not much of technique rite?
but actually i haven't tried with lp...haha...i tried with jackson with inf3,4 pups....maybe pups problem...

yeah it should help. something like a big muff if you dont mind it adding ALOT of dist/fuzz, can almost be used as a standalone. the big muff sustains really long even when the sustain knob is only at 12 oclock, and i believe that there are mods that can be done to make it sustain even longer.

hmm....that's the problem...i dun wan high gain, n yet can get a long note....
so pedals like boss compressor/sustainer will help?

a boss sustainer doesnt sustain notes, its a compressor, it compressed, kill dynamics in return the pathetic milisecond of sustain that doesnt help in anything at all...

fernandes sustainer does the job of sustaining till kingdom come, but not the kind that moore gets, in p.walkway

The sustain you migh have in mind, comes from couple of factors, amp, pickup, volume of playing, setup of guitar, guitar type etc

No particular gear will get long sustain, without adding other characteristic that you might not want it to be inside...

reverb adds sustain too, to the point of the note played will never fade away, but in return, it makes you sound like playing in a canyon

muff type effect has long sustain, in return, the gain within

certain delay pedal has a hold function which allows user to step on it and let the note goes on and on till you release your foot, but in return that last note of sustain doesnt sound natural at all

compressor give the effect of like having sustain, but it aint gonna add sustain that goes on without the effect of killing dynamics

imho

bro simple solution ....do finger vibrato la..
how long u wanna sustain...???
if still cannot ..get tongak ali la...:)

jk..hehe

quote dtrulez38: btw, anyone used metal muff b4? does it have a lot of tone control?

maybe you should check the review section...?
