Active pickups

Hey guys, I want to get 2 EMG pups(81,60)...but my friend told me that if you want to install those pups u would have to drill cavities into your guitar as they are active pickups. and he also told me it may affect the sound. So i want to ask fellow softies who have gotten cavities drilled, will it affect the sound?

your friend needs to do research properly :P

most guitars the 9v battery will be able to fit into the control cavity.

There shouldn't be any problems fitting a battery into the electronics cavity of an RG. Even if you rout a chunk of wood from the guitar, I doubt you'll be able to notice the difference. If less wood meant less tone, then a tele would always sound better than a strat. Such concepts are grossly erroneous and unscientific. Routing shouldn't be done when its a vintage instrument as it will ruin its value. However, it's ultimately up to the customer.

i dont own a RG.
but you do have a screwdriver right?

Yes, open it up, take a 9v, put it in, check... a good way to decide before bringing it to the guitar shop, where the tech there will check for you and tell you whether you need to route.

Wait.

Why not just... bring it to the tech!?
