acoustic simulator pedals

Hi guys, i know many of you own acoustic simulator pedals if I am not wrong. :P Which brands are worth checking out? I have hear the demos of the Boss AC-2, sounds great to me. What do you guys think?

Hmm.

If you're on a tight budget the 'dodgy' $55 behringer acoustic simulator should be just fine. I tried one a couple of months back and it sounded just fine through a humbucker guiter.

*cue those who hate those plastic behringer pedals to come flaming down on me for suggesting such a "travestic piece of rubbish gear"*

there's only boss acoustic pedal i think?

i have one AC3, and i think it's pretty good for its function. but pretty expensive. it sounds artificial if u dont tweak it properly, but normally i use the jumbo feature, and increase the bass frequencies. because normally acoustics have big bodies and the wood shines out the bass in it.

oh. the AC-2 is no longer around? I thought i saw it listed on the boss web...yea pretty tight budget anyway, just one to get a simple one to emulate a decent acoustic sound on my strat... :D

Hmm.

The RV-5 is way out of production and still it's on the webby. Just a tip: websites are pretty unreliable sometimes.

Well, the AC series does what it claims to do.

Simulate an acoustic tone.

Its nothing to shout about, nothing much, sounds fake, etc etc etc....

But it works lah... :D

go buy the behringer am100 to try out first.
its not the best stuff u can buy, but for 55 bucks, wat the heck..
go get it...

behringer produces a "tick tick" sound when u on/off the pedal, thats the very disadvantage..

ehh.. the advantage?? 55bucks only.

go figure.

btw, it didnt work very well with my hums, i hd to use the middle single pup for better clarity.

this is going to be a brutally honest post.

the acoustic sounds convincing only when using single coils, but still falls short of the mark considerably.

will fool general audience, but to another guitarist he'll prob go "wtf this guy damn lazy to bring his acoustic"

in short, kinda waste of cash. even an eq pedal will be a better investment.

imo.

oh and did i mention tt there's this hiss when u play and the volume on the pedal can't go to proper stage volumes? ie. volume maxed still not loud enough, must crank clean volume on amp and readjust ALL the gain levels on other pedals....

wa the ac3 so ex stil got this kinda prob man....sad

so heed my advise, haha buy the behringer, can throw away if u dun like, or sell me for 20bucks, thanks...

i think it also does help to note where u strum on ur electric guitar when using the ac simulator. On my strat, i use the position 4 which is my bridge n neck pup together n i strum ard the 17th fret area to get a nice accostic like sound... Its not completely acoustic sounding, but it sure does help anyhow!!!

so find a sweet spot to strum n try dif pup combi... it works for me

like wat someone said, only sounds decent with single coils with humbuckers they sound quite bad so if ur a strat player then good for you if not than too bad.

i use it for a strat in the mid single coil. sounds as good as i can get it to be. in the neck, it's too bassy and smooth, doesnt have the acoustic attack. in the bridge, it's too thin and flath sounding. split coils dont work. so use the middle position for it to sound the best!

but i used it for church performance, and the audience thought i was using acoustic but playing an electric. still sounds good but u cant get the full body resonance of an acoustic with a bigger and hollow body.

ha...thanks for those reviews, seems like the boss is really cannot make it.. 8O I think i will get the behringer then...

I think if Boss cannot make it, IMHO Behringer won't fare better. :D

I have the Ac-2.so far so good.

U gotta try and see if you can live with it first before writing off. :D

AC2 no longer in production.

You could try out the AC3 at sweelee ,its almost similiar except that the latter has a reverb option and that it has the COSM modelling thingie.

It retails for $160 plus last time i checked.

Cheers :D

thanks snuffle, will check it out when i am free, anyway can the build in reverb double up as a reverb pedal anyawy? :P

hmmm,That I'm not too sure, I think logically you can't use it seperately as a reverb pedal as there is no bypass option for the main effect...

When you try out at sweelee bring your own guitar or see for yourself the difference in sound between the humbucker guitars and single coil guitars.BIG DIFFERENCE.

Have fun-Cheerz :D
