About Edge III and LoPro Edge

Im very curious about this...

Im sure that original Edge wouldnt fit in Edge III cavity, by 1/4 inch, or somewhere there... cant remember well, according to jemsite.com.

But Im unsure of whether LoPro Edge can fit in Edge III.

Why am I asking this qn? You see, because I was thinking... since Edge III seems to need a total replacement should something happen to the knife edge (wear out very badly for example, to the extent that sharpening doesnt do much... and the knife edge is part of the tremolo, rather than like Edge Pro, Edge, and LoPro, which seemingly has the edge press-fitted in, and hence probably when they wear out badly, you can just order the knife edges).

According to my friend, the cavity for an Edge III can only fit strictly Edge III (of course, that is unless someone made a FR Tremolo with same dimensions as the Edge III, but that's a different story).

Essentially Im thinking longterm. I enjoy using the Edge III on my RG350 (maybe aside from the bar wanting to slip out sometimes, even tho the looseness makes the bar easier to move about).

Forgive me if I'm asking a stupid/ridicuious question, or if that I got some stuff wrong, cheers. =)

You can order another Edge III.

they don't cost as much as the Edge Pro/Edge/Lo Pro. In fact, they are quite... cheap.

If you wanna use a Lo Pro or Edge or Edge Pro, just route for them... :D

You can retrofit an OFR in the Edge III route, which means you can do a Gotoh or Schaller.

Ahh okay. Thanks shreddy. =)

Maybe I could try Gotoh in the future.

Routing is a big no unless Im going to build my custom guitar lol. =)

Anyway, about the Gotoh Floyd Roses that was mass ordered quite a while back, how reliable were they?

same as shredcow. get a gotoh.

the lo pro edge doesn't have as much pull up ability as the edge or edgeIII though, so its up to u what u want.

The Gotoh is reliable. The construction is top notch and sturdy. I had one last time, when my original Ibanez Edge rusted and stuff (cosmo finish, ugh) and I recall being able to tighten the nuts/screws on it without fear of anything stripping, I recall abusing the thing and having fantastic stability!

Compared to the Ibanez Edge (original Edge) the Gotoh was brighter and stiffer. Also, the gotoh was lighter...

The difference in pull up ability between Edge & Lo Pro is a matter of 1 or 2 extra semitones. Its not THAT big a deal but if it is to you, do a Vai - route a lion's claw.

deeper route loh.

It was for the original Edge... coz Vai wanted THAT much more pull up.

Its now a cosmetic thing with the Edge Pro... A JEM aint' a JEM without the lion's claw.

yeah..

This is helpful... thanks guys. =)

Gotoh Floyd Rose available in the same black hardware as those found on the RG350DXWH?

so can i do extreme dive bombing with the edge 3 tremolo system without the guityar running out of tune or string snapping?

wear & tear will always take place, i think the main objective here is to keep it functional throughout its good life 8-)

Like subversion said, wear and tear cannot avoid one in the longterm. Just deal with it, it gives your guitar character! About setting up and maintaince, you can google up guides and vids on the internet. There are plenty around. If you arent like to confident, can go to any local guitar tech to do the set-up for you.

if that were the case, why didnt Ibanez put this trem on all their guitars? as compared to the current edge pro/edge zero bridges, the edge III is not as stable. If it were the same, everyone would be beating each other up just to get a hold on an RG350. FR sure go out of tune, just a matter of how fast.

string snapping on the other hand, you have to check your saddles.

wouldn't be so sure abt that. most ibanez whammy abusers in the charts use the edge 3 over the other edges, or at least most of their artist models. there's gotta be a reason behind that right? ;)

I think Edge is suppose to be much more stable than Edge III. Artist series = Edge Pro, Lo-Pro Edge. Edge only existed in the older models of Ibanez (Pre 2003?). My personal preference is still the Edge tho.
