Abletone Live & Korg Legacy Col.

Hi all...

I am trying out some sequencing and live performance possiblities with abletone live 6. I happen to get myself the korg legacy col digital edition. So I made ableton use the korg legacy sounds as plug-in devices so when i arm a track with the korg plug-in device, the korg legacy digital starts running and i can choose whatever sounds i want.

The problem is I am having a noticeable latency when i hit a note on the computer keyboard in ableton after what i did above. Can anyone help me out?
My set up is as follows:

IBM T42
intel Centrino 1.6 processor laptop
1.25GB of ram at 333Mhz
80GB hard drive spinning at 5200rpm i think
Internal Sound Interface: DirectSound SoundMax digital Audio/ MME
BUT I also get the same latency when i use the ASIO4ALL

Would an external audio interface from M-Audio or Line 6 or some other brand take away the latency?

sell bongman your korg legancy digital AT A STEEP PRICE . lols he needs it alot ! lols.

sorry i aint that pro to answer your question yet but however i would definately like to know the answer too :P.

Hi,

can i get more details from you to understand your situation better?
If I am not wrong, you are using Ableton as your main program and using the Korgs as VST plugins and using your computer keyboard (acting as musical keyboard) to try to trigger the VSTs?

If you are doing that, there are too many unknown factors that can contribute to your latency. e.g. how is the key strokes translated to MIDI information to trigger your VSTs?

To eliminate all these, try getting a USB MIDI interface and connecting a MIDI keyboard controller. Set you Korg Legacy plug ins to accept MIDI info straight from the MIDI port. This way, latency will be minimised and you should get near instant sample triggers. Hope this helps.

Hi! Thanks for your replies... robsg, you're right about my situation.

Hmmm... about how my keystrokes are translated to midi info, i'm not too sure because that's something ableton offers by default.

Erm... If i do not use korg legacy FROM ableton, as in i trigger the VSTis directly using a midi device, the latency is not there. Once i use it as a plug in in ableton (because i need to do recording) , the latency is noticeable.

bongman needs korg legacy? =)

i apologise about my stupidity. thanks Ian! I managed to lower buffer size such that the latency is minimal now... Thanks all!!

yar he need it. lols his complaining about city music not bringing them in lols.

hmmm actually i dono but i wont use albeton as a sequencer. i would definately use albeton as a plug in instead of a sequencer but well pple work things different way. sorry though i dono the answer to the questions

haha... Thanks alot anyway! I appreciate it. If you dont use ableton as your sequencer what do you use? Oh citymusic is selling the legacy col. now on its year end sale rite? at a discount price... perhaps you can tell him about it!

Do you know other good VSTis like this korg legacy thingy?

oh yeah, if you want to sell, do sell to me before I order from overseas... hahaha!

I bought a Korg K25 midi controller today with the M1 le, sounds good like the good old days !!!

hmmm i would use something like logic or sonar for sequencing and protools for post production.

and i feel everyone is using this method too.
SEE SEE BONGMAN WANTS IT lols.

i use energyXT now. it rocks as a sequencer and a VST host. and the standalone is only 1.2MB.

yes, megabyte.

happen to browse through this thread,
I'm wondering why sequencing is preferred
using logic and sonar ?
what do you mean by post production?

i guess cos of the available plug-ins in this two software plus its actually depends on the person but this two software are actually very very very useful when it come to sequencing. there are easy to manage easy to mix and easy to use. also logic has very good eye candies if you fancy.

in post production i mean something like audio editing after you sequencing everything you might wanna act more voicing in your vocals or EQ it or do more something in a piece of work to enhance a certain critical part etc.. although sonar and logic allows you to use that alrdy protools is mighty great at post production. i have seen the demos at the digidesign website and i feel some parts of protools are really professional.

okay and yes alot people use different things to sequence however after you sequence a track and maybe want edit it some software makes it hard for you to edit and or troublesome. but sonar and logic are great in that and also it has a built in notation software that notates your sequence isnt that great?!

and lastly if you would had heard tera's debut ablum he does his music everything in sonar with external samples library. cheez once also said he prefer logic , however i dont really know what he use to sequence right now.

but well everyone should check out this 2 really really nice softwares : )
