A&R roles and responsibilities

A & R - artiste & repertoire...very simple...

ARTISTE DEVELOPMENT - from the ground up to international sales, development for local artistes in all languages.

REPERTOIRE - possible content and release of artiste's work to various regions, marketing & sales AND most forgotten all the time....catalogue sales that account for 68% of yearly sales....reissues, remastering that translate to re selling ....

me, former A & R for arista, RCA BMG classics, windham hill....the job made me vomit blood as my bosses then did not comprehend the significance of the said two points....
 
me previously A & R man for Warner Music Singapore .. long time back.. job scope included

1. Promote the company stable of international & local artises to the mass media; press conferences, meet the fans sessions etc

2. Personally handling the artistes' promo schedules during their stopover in SG

3. Listen to local bands who send in CDs for any potential acts


OTHER IMPORTANT DUTIES INCLUDED

A) MAJOR BUYING FOOD / DRINKS / CLUBBING with radio / TV / press community on a nightly basis so that they would plug my company's records. I had an unlimited budget and sometimes spent $500 a nite easy ...

B) Handling weird request like the time Gerardo asked me to bring his road manager to Geylang after a 2am Zouk gig ... that was the ultimate lowpoint

It was a really interesting part of my life but I would wanna do that again now .......
 
I'm 100percent with you in regards to Seal brutha FGL.

yep - high point of my life was using his guitarist's accoustic guitar and jamming with him in his hotel suite coz he didnt wanna go out clubbing one night when he was in SG
