a 2nd hand fender would be good... that SX should be hanging up on your wall as a sort of reminder that you have dutifully worn out your old guitar, and you deserve something better. hehe make it look like some war-trophy.

what is ur real budget? its not really $1000 is it?

u can try to sell ur SX strat on luthers classifieds or soft classifieds. besure to get some autosol and clean up the mess before u sell. u may be able to fetch a higher price for that.

then u could go and shop around for a new guitar. depending on what type of styles u play... take for example, an ibanez rg, ibanez sa, fender strat and all... they all have different feel and base tone...

tone can be modified later by investing more $$ on pups so i'd say go for feel and functionality when it comes to buying a mid-range and above guitar...

the cleans of an ibanez rg is quite different from the cleans of a vintage strat since the pickups on both are very different and the materials of the saddles are also quite different. so it boils down to personal preference in the end. do u like the bell-like sparkle cleans of a fender strat? or do u like a fatter sounding clean?

but take note..if a guitar has a fat tone..they will be prone to sounding muddy..well.

I always get a 2nd hand fender strat & mod em ... normally with jumbo frets, PUPS and pots etc and tuners - for club use great and if U dont mind the cosmetics...if U want a spanking new guit without any "battle scars" etc then invest in a new one....
