I've just thought of something:
For threads created in the classified section, perhaps users can be given a function to label items as sold, on the forum page itself? After all, they're no longer allowed to edit opening posts in classifieds section (which i think is a good move too).
For example, this is an ordinary ad:
Threadstarters can have the option to do this:
This way, if they have posted their mobile numbers or contact details (like i have
), and they've already sold the advertised item, made an additional post to inform users that the item has been sold, but are still getting SMSes and emails asking if the item is available, the label outside can reduce these unwanted messages.
