A good set of PUP set for a Strat

jdawg, i tried lace sensor RED in a fernandes strat.. Didnt sound appealing. I dunno why tho.. It din sound suitable.

Lace Sensors are quite an acquired taste. Some of the laces have very odd interaction with overdrive and distortion. (Though from what I read the newer Laces are much better sounding than the old Lace Sensor Golds I had).

The cleans also sound different. Quite pristine though.

To be honest I think you're a little clueless to getting aftermarket pups. So my advice to you is:

1. Consider your original pups. They aren't too bad. Play a bit more, adjust the height a bit, see what you can work with them.
2. Get the SD Everything Axe set. I don't think you can do too far wrong with a matched set. Remember that your positions 2 and 4 on the pickup selector is an interaction with two adjacent pups. Picking pups that sound awesome by itself but horrible when badly matched can be very disappointing for a newcomer.

And as Xypher mentioned, they are a good buy at less than $200.

Maybe you might want to list in detail what you want out of a S-S-S combo. Whether it be noise-cancelling, singlecoil sized humbuckers, low output, high output, unique tones, whatever.

Most of the pups I tried have their merits and their cons, it's just a matter of taste.

well since tis is my 1st and only strat, and its single coil, im tinkin,

High output Noise canceling Single coil humbuckers for the Bridge,
And a nice warm soothing tone for the Neck,
Mid ... :?: :? :?:

From my personal experiences, I would recommend:

Seymour Duncan:
Neck: Lil 59 - I find the 59 sweet and warm.
Middle: Custom Staggered - Warm, takes cleans well, sounds good on distortion and has that fatness to the tone.
Bridge: JB Jr or Something else. Test the JB Jr (on someone else's guitar) before buying, it doesn't sound exactly like the JB and it's kinda you like it or you hate it. The chugs are really crunchy if you like it.

I don't have enough experiences with other brands to give you a good assessment. I would advise against mixing brands though.. doesn't tend to work well.

And again, seeing how close my recommendation is to the Everything Axe set, that would be my recommendation.

After checking some sites, i notice that the everything axe set is sold for ~200usd.. I wonder if the guy at davis told me the right price or not.. He said 170sgd around there.. Confused.

Has anyone used the jbjr/hot rails for their strat? How does it sound?

Its a Fender 62 MIJ!

Im tinking if u could suggest the the combi rather then juz one pup!

Wah Lao... Chey... I thought you talking about Fender 62 AVRI... That'w why I was wondering why you'd think the pups were crap, and you'd want to change. You don't shell out that kind of money for an MIA strat and then be unhappy with the sound when you could buy a Japan one...

High output Noise canceling Single coil humbuckers for the Bridge,

Going towards Kinmans:

Neck: AVn63
Mid: AVn63
Bridge: AVn69b

Check them out...
