A good beginner's electric guitar and amp.

Here are some of the pieces I narrowed down to but may be a bit on the expensive side:

Fender Standard Fat Strat
Gibson SG Standard
Ibanez RG321

Still looking at other available brands that is value-for-money. Any recommendations for a quality-worth-investment? I have gone down to a couple of places last weekend to look see...and again bedazzled by the sheer variety of choices.

I was also recommended the shop Guitar77. Does anyone have any experience with this shop and their products? Any other shops to recommend with a good range and great services?

DarknessFury, care to elaborate more why you think SX guitar has the edge over the rest?

Hi guys, maybe if you can also elaborate more when you mentioned certain models does better...it would certainly be of great help for me. :)

u should save up and then get a good guit.i would go wit the gibson sg standard.woah.a big value for money. Its good and cheap for a gibson.Always save and get a good guit.dont waste time on cheap ones cause in the end u'll still buy a better one when u improve. So yes i say save and buy a gibson.

Haha, it doesn't really have that advantage over the rest. You will want to buy a better guitar as you progress along the line. But in terms of newbie state, SX is good. It has an amp too and a tuner...and it costs only SGD199! At least that was the price when I bought it...

Erm, whatever that means...you'll stick with this baby for quite a while...I have mine for about 3 months now...not that that's long but for my standard, 3 months is a really really long time...kinda like 1 year for some.

Hi guys, I came up with a list. What do you guys think about these?
1. Epiphone SG Special
2. Ibanez GAX30
3. Ibanez GAX70
4. Ibanez GSA60
5. Hamer Californian CX3

Considering Fenders and Craftmans also. Any model recommendations for the Craftsmans?

Thanks :D

Thanks, legin. Point noted...taken off from my list already. How about the Epiphones, Fenders or Craftsmans? Any good value models to recommend? Gibsons are very good but way out of my budget for now.

hmm.epi les paul standards are not bad.and its not very ex too.around 600 after dis.its reali good although its a little heavy.

oh or u can try fender japan.800 bucks.much better than the ones made in mexico.either the tele or the strat.ur preference but i prefer the tele ;)

Yes...I believe someone should review the GAX70 or even the GAX30...planning to buy one of them but read good/bad reviews...

Thanks again legin. I like the Fender Strat's shape...I am also considering them too. Epi les paul standards are too heavy for me. Any comments on Squier's range? I find their shapes quite attractive. The Cort M200 is highly recommended by some members here, I will go check it out too.

DarknessFury, I read some of the reviews of this 2 models...GAX30 has got a overall rating of 7.9, made in China, $280(SLOP). GAX70 got a 8.4 for rating and made in Indonesia, $296(SLOP). I put them out of my list already. I found GSA60 has a 8.6 rating, made in Indonesia, $316(SLOP) while GRG170DX has a 8.9, but made in China, $300(SLOP). I was advised that the country of make is a consideration too.

(SLOP) Swee Lee's Online Pricing.

OK...I busted my budget...I got an Epiphone Zephyr Blues with a Roland Jazz Chorus-90 from Swee Lee yesterday. The tones are amazing. But the amp has a humming from the SSS on the guitar when plucked in.

Anyone got any comments on this two pieces of equipment?

Thanks :D

i suppose you spent way too much for a beginner's guitar and amp, especially judging on your budget. i'm not sure why u settled on these final 2 equipment.

good luck with your purchased equipment. they are more than decent equipment. i hope you won't be parting with them anytime soon.

i just looked at some of the postings by other softies. guys, please don't suggest if you're not sure of what you're saying.

Had wanted a more basic strat and amp. I wanted to look at the Corts and Squiers.....I have to agree that I overkilled...the total is like 3 times my intended budget. 8O Guess, I'll be keeping the pieces for a while.
