98.7FM's Platform for Local Musicians

Well, just heard the show this early morning and i must say i'm quite impressed with some of the musicians on our local scene. Anyone here sent compositions to the station before?

They were interviewing the lead singer of this band called The Suns or something close enough, must say IMO that their song really shows off some of our local vibes. Must applaud the station for allowing young (and old) local musicians like ourselves to get us heard on radio.

Comments?

Definitely a plus point. If locals bands get more exposure, maybe somebody will wake up and realise how much untapped musical talent we have on the scene here, and perhaps FINALLY do something about it, instead of plonking their asses down at their desks and being armchair critics.

Please, we can do MUCH better than Taufik, Sly, and grooming Ah Bengs with emo-haircut-failures to be sent to Taiwan.

But then again, we'd have the same time-"honoured" problem that we've had over and over again here. Some deprived kiddies are gonna hear these bands on the radio, and then BANG, they start acting like authorities on the local scene.

True.. but what really impresses me a lot is how bands like The Sun are touring the whole of Australia. I mean, i think it must be really good experience to keep performing infront of massive and lively crowds overseas non-stop for months.

In Singapore, bands can't really do tours, maybe if you consider going from a small gig to another bigger one. Before they disbanded, PugJelly also did a tour of Australia. Which brings me to another point, it seems that Australia is a good platform for local musicians to really mature their playing and the level of performance.

The Sun actually base themselves in Australia, so naturally the tour.

Our bands need to strengthen their repertoire before them can embark on tours. By strengthening, I mean they really need to have a set of excellent songs, despite the fact that they may have a long list.

It is good that national radio is doing something substantial for local music because the following is growing fast.

I think Singapore needs to pried open a little more for local music to grow faster. As it is, when we organize a gig, we have people calling the police, calling the management, calling the MP to complain about noise.

I think we should have more gigs to make them get use to the noise and help them with their tolerance level.

hey ho let`s go!!!!!!!

yeah.....

the next gig at EXPO must go FULL-BLAST!!!!!hehehehehehehehehe........

well actually

The Suns were the Boredphucks
who were very big many years ago
but they got banned for cursing on air
and they are STILL banned till this day
so they changed their names and moved to Australia to play
becuase they can't play in singapore anymore

true story. check with anyone who has been in the scene long enough

yup kissyourmother (haha) that's completely true! such a pity they're banned though, the suns are gooooooooood!

The cursing part really got me. That guy was like "wah lao" here and then, then "shit" here and there.. haha! Which made me worry for daniel ong. Nowadays say a little wrong thing kenna axed, poor Sheik Haikel man.. missed his partnership with dan.

It's on sat 3-4pm if i'm not wrong, then replay tuesday early morning 2-3am.

Yeah the Boredphucks.. havent heard of them for along time now. Last i knoe bout them is back in 1998. One of the few Punk Rock band in those days that really appears with a Bang!!!.
If they r THE SUN, then they shuld be making tones of $$$$ in Australia then.
Who says Singaporean cant make it big??

my band, aphrodisiac's song got played on that show, right after the suns interview
well, have to credit our bassist, weiye (orcfiend on soft) on this... he wrote it and sent it to them ...i was quite surprised to find out 8O

please check out the song on www.purevolume.com/aphrodisiac
its called "currently unwritten"

cheers :)

..

I still rem when they started off in Ngee Ann Poly by doing up this crazy shit txt file which was called "Tai chi Files", which was basically bitching and whining about the girls in mass comm!! They were in computer studies that time.

Then they began with this crazy shit band called moshpit, which was the last band to play at one of the radio heatwave gigs. we formed a moshpit comprising of less than 25 ppl.

Boredphucks played "Paradise City" and tat infamous hokkien song at Youth Park man. of course, the police was offended by GnR and they got hauled off the stage!!! WAHAHAHHAHA

Yes, I'm old.

Yeah the Boredphucks..

Kissyourmother is right. No organisers dare to take them on due to that incident.

And no, they are not doing that all well in Oz. They are still trying to hit the big time. I hope they do though. Funny guys...
