7 string

Anyone hear has experience with 7 string pickups? I'd really like some insight on them. The stock pickups on my RG1527 are destroying my ears =P Would appreciate if anyone could share their experiences.

Haven't really decided if i want to go with Dimarzio or Seymour Duncan yet though...

IMO, Ibanez went one down by offering the 1527 with non-Dimarzio humbuckers. the model it superseded- the RG7620 (i own one) has default Dimarzio pickups... *sigh*

i heard the EVO7 on-line, it's very good for the $$$- balanced overall tone

Where did you manage to hear it? It's been really difficult locating sound samples of 7 string pickups. Btw, have you any idea what the default Dimarzio's are in the RG7620?

someone i chatted with online let me hear the EVO7s...

the default Dimarzios in the discontinued RG7620/ 7621 are simply named Dimarzio7, not available off the shelf, specially wound for these particular models

I'd rather Ibanez charge higher and continue to use those specially wound pickups for the RG1527. I'm having hell of a problem deciding which to use because of the lack of proper sound samples. Sub, what combo would you recommend for Dimarzio and SD each?

you need reasonably bright sounding humbuckers to make sure that the low notes can be heard:

Dimarzios:
*Evo
*Distortion
*Blaze (as used in the Universe model)

Duncans:
*JB
*Distortion

I was actually giving them consideration, EMGs. But the fools had to make put the pickups in bass covers, which means routing will be necessary to install... something i think most people want to do..
